Gori milna ho milna re nadiya ke paar

Posted on: August 29, 2012

We in this blog like to celebrate milestones. The most frequent form of milestone that we achieve in the blog are century of songs. So far we have achieved as many as 65 such centuries.

Another kind of century which gives me considerable satisfaction is the century of songs by individual artists. Exactly 50 artists ( including one artist in two different categories, viz singing and music direction) have scored their individual century of songs in this blog.

There was a time when I consciously tried to see that songs of artists with less than one hundred songs were discussed so that they could reach their centuries as soon as practicable. Of late I have not been able to concentrate on posting songs of such artists. In fact the last time an artist notched an individual century (first century, and not the multiple one) was during the 5500th song of the blog, which coincided with N Datta’s individual century as a music director.

So after more than one thousand songs (and six months) later, we have one more artist reaching a well deserved century of songs in this blog.

The artist is Jaan Nisaar Akhtar, who finally reaches his much awaited centry as a lyricist in this blog. This makes him the 51st artist (and 17th lyricist) to reach his (maiden) century of songs.

Jaan Nisaar Akhtar was not as prolific as a few of his contemporaries. The number of movie songs written by Jaan Nisaar Akhtar are only 151 if wikipaedia is to be believed. I know for sure that I had to search hard to locate the last four Jaan Nisaar Akhtar songs. These last four songs were obscure songs that I had never heard before.

Here is this 100th Jaan Nisaar Akhtar song in the blog. It is from the lesser known movie called “Sushila” (1966). This song is a lovely Rafi-Geeta Dutt duet. Music is composed by C Arjan.

Coming to the movie itself, this movie was an extremely obscure movie with intersting history. Here is what has been discussed about this movie by Sudhir jee in the blog in the past:

The film was launched in 1962 / 63, under the banner of Shri Vinayak Chitra, Bombay, and direction by Mahendra Pran. Music composition assigned to C Arjun and lyrics by Jaan Nisaar ‘Akhtar’ and Indeevar. The film has 7 songs, of which only one is penned by Indeevar, and the remaining are written by Jaan Nissar ‘Akhtar’. The music of this film was released in 1963. After some delays, the film was finally certified in 1966, and probably released. I use the word probably, because not much other information, including the star cast, is available for this film.

One does not hear anything more about this film. After eleven years, in 1977, a film is released with the title, ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’. The production banner for this film is Shri Devi Films, Karnataka, and the direction credits are listed as Mahendra Pran and Dutta Chauhan. The curious thing about this film is that the music director is C Arjun, and lyrics are written by Jaan Nissar ‘Akhtar’ and Indeevar. Further, the list of songs is exactly the same as the 1966 film ‘Sushilaa’. The names of lyricists and singers for each song match exactly with those from the earlier film. Digging further, I find a note in Geet Kosh, which says that the film ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’ “appears to be” a slightly edited version of ‘Sushilaa’, realesed under a new name and a new certificate. The star cast of ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’ is available – Aashoo, Mahesh Raj, Prabhakar, Moolchand, Kumar,Sandeep, Uma Khosla, Ram Kumar, Jeet, Dubey, Harman, Sinha, Ferozaa, Sheela, Shabana, K Raghunath, Shobha, Dilip Dutt, Krishan Duggal, Lal Bahadur etc. The names in this list seem cryptic and not much familiar.

Here is this special song from “Sushila” (1966). What a wonderful song to listen to ! It has got to be one of the best Rafi Geeta Dutt duets. It is a song worthy of being the 100 th song of Jaan Nisaar Akhtar in the blog.

With Jaan Nisaar Akhtar joining the list of centurion artists in the blog, I can now concentrate on discussing songs of the artists whose centuries are long due. Some of these names being Gulzar, Khayyam, S N Tripathi, Kidar Sharma , Amirbai Karnataki etc. Hopefully they too will join the list of blog centurions soon.

Song-Gori milna ho milna re nadiya ke paar (Sushila)(1966) Singers-Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Jaan Nisaar Akhtar, MD-C Arjun

Lyrics

gori milna ho milna re nadiya ke paar
na baba na koi dekh lega
ham to chupke se chupke se kar lenge pyaar
arre na baba na koi dekh lega
na baba na koi dekh lega

nadi paare na milna
to bagiyan mein milna
bagiyan mein milna
re bagiyan mein milna
ho ho
rain thhodi si jaaye to
galiyan mein milna
galiyan mein milna
milne julne ke jaalim thhikaane hazaar
na baba na koi dekh lega
o gori milna ho milna re nadiya ke paar
na baba na koi dekh lega
na baba na koi dekh lega

jo na galiyan mein milna
to panghat pe milna
panghat pe milna
re panghat pe milna
ho ho
nahin peehar to babul kee
chauhkhat pe milna
chauhkhat pe milna
laaun bele kegajre chameli ke haar
na baba na koi dekh lega
gori milna ho milna re nadiya ke paar
arre na baba na koi dekh lega
na baba na koi dekh lega

chaahe pal pal jiya
apni gori se milna
gori se milna re
gori se milna
ho ho
kuchh na hoibe to
melan mein chori se milna
chori se milna
kou poochhe to bolen
dulhaniya hamaar
na baba na koi dekh lega
ho gori milna ho milna re nadiya ke paar
arre na baba na koi dekh lega
na baba na koi dekh lega

Congratulations Atulji, for reaching this milestone.

‘Sushila’ was released in 1963 & its most famous song was ‘Gham ki Andheri Raat mein…’ sung by Rafi & Talat together! There may be very few duets of these two legendary singers!!
