Sainyyan se bichhad gayi ho morey raam

Posted on: September 6, 2012

When the musical bandwagon of this blog rolls on at its cruising speed then we move on at the rate of 100 songs per fortnight. The previous century was one fortnight ago. In other words, we complete yet another century of songs with this song.

This song is the 6600th song of the blog.

But that is not all. This song also happens to be the 300th song of Naushad in the blog as a music director.

And that is not all either. This song also happens to be the 200th lyrics contributed by Atif M.

So one can say that this song marks all the three kinds of centuries that we in this blog can think of, namely the century of songs for the blog, century of songs for an artist as well as century of songs for a contributor.

The song under discussion is a special song even otherwise. This song is from “Chaandni Raat” (1949), which was a Tajmahal Pictures production. It was directed by M Ehsan. The movie had Shyam, Naseem Bano, David Abraham, Ulhas, Cuckoo, Jillo, Parveen, Noor Jehan, Sayeeda Khan etc in it.

The song is sung by Amirbai Karnataki and Saadat Khan. Amirbai Karnataki is a voice that I love to listen to. She has quite a sweet and original kind of voice. I am in fact eagerly looking forward to the day when this blog has a century of Amirbai Karnataki songs. This song is her 62nd song in the blog, so she is on her way to her own century.

But pray who is Saadat Khan ? Your guess is as good as mine. If one searches for details about him on internet, very little information is available on him. Searching for songs sung by him in Hindi movies brings up just one result, viz Phir tumhaari yaad aayi ai sanam(Rustam Sohrab)(1963), which is a stunning Sajjad Hussain composition.

But did Saadat Khan sing only this song ? I sounded our own inhouse encyclopeadia, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh. He informed me that Saadat Khan was a small time music director and he sometimes sang too. But unfortunately his songs tend to be quite elusive. Either records of his songs would be not made, or if records would be made then those songs would be extremely elusive.

So I was quite excited when I found that Atif M, the first lyrics contributor of this blog had sent me the lyrics of this song.

The song sounds like an archtypical puraani film ka geet. The voice of Saadat Khan sound a bit like G M Durrani, but it is a different voice, and a voice which is as elusive as the Himalayan Yeti.

So, this song presents the elusive voice of Saadat Khan for the listening pleasure of music lovers.

I take this opportunity to thank all the visitors, contributors and well wishers for their continued support which is encouraging us to notch our centuries at a good clip now. I hope and pray that the blog will continue to get the support, encouragement and love from music lovers.

I had originally planned for this milestone the next day (7 september) but then I realised late that 7 september is an important dayso I better complete the century prior to that date because 7 september is the anniversary of at least three artists. This realisation caused me to post lots and lots of posts at the 11th hour. But finally I have managed to post this century post one day in advance, and with this landmark out of the way, we can now concentrate on the annivesaries that fall on 7 september.

Song-Sainyyaan se bichhad gayi ho morey raam (Chaandni Raat)(1949) Singers-Amirbai Karnataki, Saadat Khan, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad

Lyrics

saiyyan se bichhad gayi ho more raam
saiyyan se bichhad gayi ho more raam
saiyyan se bichhad gayi ho more raam
meri duniya ujad gayi ho more raam
meri duniya ujad gayi ho more raam
meri duniya ujad gayi ho more raam

jeewan ke din kaise bitaaun
haay kaise bitaaun
dil pe jo beete keh bhi na paaun
haay keh bhi na paaun
main to mushkil mein pad gayi ho more raam
meri duniya ujad gayi ho more raam
meri duniya ujad gayi ho more raam

na hum unke na woh hamaare
haay na woh hamaare
raat ko ro ro dil yeh pukaare
chaandni rut kidhar gayi ho more raam

saiyyan se bichhad gayi ho more raam
saiyyan se bichhad gayi ho more raam

birha ke dukh mujh se uthhen na
haay mujh se uthhen na
haay sajanwa mere huye na
haay mere huye na
dil de ke main mar gayi ho more raam
meri duniya ujad gayi ho more raam
meri duniya ujad gayi ho more raam

pyaar bana tha jis ka khewaiyya
haay jis ka khewaiyya
doob rahi hai aaj woh naiyya
meri qismat bigad gayi ho more raam

saiyyan se bichhad gayi ho more raam
saiyyan se bichhad gayi ho more raam

Congratulations to reach another milestone in just 15 days!!!
Atifji,
What a contribution to this blog and all music lovers. “Agar Aap Na Hote” to hamara to naam o nishaan hi nahin aata is blog mein. 🙂 Matlab ye ki agar aap ne gaana likh ke bhej ne ka ye silsila chalu kiya na hota, to hum sirf tamasha dekne waalon ki tarah reh jaate. Aap ko dher saara pyaar, dhnyawaad aur ye milestone ke liye bahut saari badhaayiaan.

Maan gaye ustaad Atul.

This is a special century for one more reason. The was a ‘day & night match’ and you hit a six in the night before attaining the century. Perhaps, this may be the fastest century on the blog.

Congratulations to you for 6600 and to Atif for a double century.

Atul ji,
Thanks for posting a song sung by Sadat khan.It is only thru this blog that unknown, obscure, unsung, forgotten and smalltime singers-who were equally good but unlucky to get name and fame-get an exposure to this generation of readers and listeners. This way you are doing a yeomen’s service to the music lovers.
Sadat Khan was a singer in many films, equally obscure like him,and he was a composer too.In fact he gave superb music in
1.Bhatakati Maina-1947
2. Behram Daku-1959 and
3. Arab ka Sitara-1961.
All the above films were not known to many and quickly forgotten by those who knew, but the songs were quite good.he himself was a good quawwal and included quawalis in his all films, participating in its singing too.In behram Daku, there is a wonderful quawali by Jaani Babu kawwal “Yeh husnwale bhi kaisa kamaal karte hain” and a gazal by Mubarak begum “tere sitam ki dastaan’.Even Talat mehmood sang one Gazal, which was included in his “Rare melodies” by H.M.V.co.
in Arab ka sitara also Shamshad,Ismail Azad Kawwal etc sang one wonderful kawwali. There were gazals also.
He sang in many films like the above and Chandani Raat and Great show of India.
He used to be a part of group kawwalis in many films too.
