Mujhe to Shiv Shankar mil gaye

In my life so far, I have yet to see a person who is a 100% Atheist. Many people claim that they do not believe in God, but when in difficulty, they pray to God only.

I think this is the effect of our Indian civilisation, which has, for thousands of years provided respite to Human Race through religion. That is why, so many other religions, apart from Hindu religion thrived and lived peacefully here.

Anyway, without getting philosophical or dwelling on a discourse on Religion let me come to the point straight. I had said in my earlier postings that I like to see Dharmik films. Not for their content as such but for the Trick scenes which they contained in them.

In India religious films have a captive audience. One may think that such films are popular only in semi-urban or rural areas, but facts show that they collect more revenue in Big cities and Metros. The fact is, from the time films-silent or talkie-started in India, no religious film has ever incurred a loss.

Out of all Gods,I like SHIV. There is a reason for it.

In our Hyderabad house, my father had built a Shiv temple in 1950. The Shivling and the Nandi idols were brought from Mysore. It was a big, open mandir enough to accommodate 51 Bramhins to do Maha Rudrabhishek and other poojas.

Every Maha Shivratri, hundreds of people used to come to take Darshan. The Temple was open to public throughout the year. A separate pathway was made to the temple from the main gate, to bypass our House, where we lived. There was a great celebration on Maha Shivratri. Lot of Shiv bhajans were played on loudspeaker whole day.

So, even though I have left Hyderabad 40-45 years ago, I remember those Bhajans and celebrations even now. The temple is still there but except daily pooja, no more celebrations are perfomed there now.

MAHASHIVRATRI is falling on 10th March this year. Let us hear ONE Shiv Bhajan every day till 10th March.

Today’s Bhajan is from a film SHIV BHAKTA-1955. I had seen this film. Tthe Bhajan is sung by Mohd Rafi.It was quite popular in those days. Perhaps our senior readers may remember this bhajan when they hear it.

SHIV BHAKT-1955 was an AVM film from Madras. Perhaps it was a remake of some Telugu or Tamil film. I do not know. The film was directed by H L N Sinha and Music Director was Chitragupta for songs written by G S Nepali. The cast was Shahu Modak Padmini, Ragini, Pandharibai, Anant kumar etc.

The story was-

Manimant and Alka are a happy couple in Gandharvalok. Due to a curse by Indra, they have to take birth on Earth. They are found in the jungle by a Hunter who adopts them and brings them up. When they are young, they are married as Deena and Neela. They live a happy life, but some bad elements in their tribe spread rumours about them and they are thrown out of the village. Deena is very angry and becomes a nastik (atheist) because, for no fault of theirs, god has punished them. Neela however has deep faith in God.

One day when Deena could not get any animal for hunting, tired he sits at a place, which happens to be a Shiva Temple. The priest Kashinath find out about him and asks him to repeat the mantra “Om Namah Shivay” continuously till he gets an animal. Deena without knowing anything about it, starts the Japa and after some time his heart is filled with bhakti Rasa and love for God.

The chief Priest Kailashnath is a bogus person. He steals God’s jewellery and gives it to his dancer girlfriend Rani. When the theft comes to light, Deena is accused of the theft as he was in the temple. For the second time he has to suffer for no fault. Deena and Neela continue the Japa of Om Namah shivay and are ready to give the supreme sacrifice with their lives, when Lord Shiva appears before them and takes them to Gandharvalok again.

Lyrics

aa aa aa aa aa

shiv shankar mil gaye
mujhe to shiv shankar mil gaye
mujhe to shiv shankar mil gaye
kiya na jap tap teerth na ghooma
kiya na jap tap teerth na ghooma
apne hi ghar mil gaye
ho o o
apne hi ghar mil gaye
mujhe to shiv shankar mil gaye
mujhe to shiv shankar mil gaye

main hoon janam ka paapi shikaari
main hoon janam ka paapi shikaari
apne karam se bana bhikhaari
apne karam se bana bhikhaari
maine prabhu se maangi thhi roti
maine prabhu se maangi thhi roti
par parmeshwar mil gaye
ho parmeshwar mil gaye
mujhe to shiv shankar mil gaye

paatey hain muni inhen karke tapasya
paatey hain muni inhen karke tapasya
baaton mein suljhi meri samasya
baaton mein suljhi meri samasya
moorkh samajh ke mujhe dayaalu
moorkh samajh ke mujhe dayaalu
ban patthar mil gaye
ban patthar mil gaye
mujhe to shiv shankar mil gaye
mujhe to shiv shankar mil gaye
