“Ismat” (1944) was an extremely obscure movie. Hardly any information was available about this movie.
I have discussed one song from this movie in the past. The comments by our knowledgeable readers, namely our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh as well as another reader, Mr Sami, on that post has given us some rare information about this movie. Now we know that this movie was produced by Fazli brothers and directed by Sibtain Fazli. The movie had Nargis and Jaani Babu in the lead,supported by Mehtab, Nandrekar, Bhudo Advani, Pratima Devi, Irshad, Ghori etc. The story had an interesting Muslim social story whereby Nandrekar the hero is married to Mehtab and then remarries to Nargis as second wife.
Here is another rare song from this obscure movie. This song is sung by Amirbai Karnataki. Shams Lucknowi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Pt Govardhan Prasad.
Only the audio of this song is aavailable and so it is difficult to say how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the picturisation of this song.

I saw this film in Surat, Gujarat when I was 11 years old. It was a Muslim family film in Urdu, I also saw “Daasi” starring Najmal Hussain and Ragini which was a Hindu Family film.in the same week. Surprisingly both the films had similar story, where the ex-wife works as a servant in ex-husband’s home. Till today I sing in my family gatherings, songs from both the films like Batish’s ‘Khamosh nigahen’ Ameerbai’s ‘Panchhi tu pyare’ and “Raaten na rahi woh’. I can still visualize some of the scenes from these films vividly!!!
