I have recently become aware of a movie called “Nishaan” (1949). This movie was a Gemini Combines Production. It was directed by S S Vasan. The movie had P Bhanumati, Nagendra Rao, J. S. Casshyap, Maya Banerji, B. Kalla, Ranjan, Narayan Rao etc in it. Judging the movie by its songs, this movie appears to be a great fun movie. I wonder why this movie is not all that well known.
Here is the first song from this movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. It is picturised on P Bhanumati and Nagendra Rao Ranjan(I hope I have identified the gentleman correctly) as a romantic piano song. Pt Indra Chandra is the lyricist. There were three music directors in this movie. This song is presumably composed by S Rajeshwar Rao.

First time heard this song,found it GOOD.Its surprised to note that SHAMSHADJI had sung with south indian music directors too. But real charm of the SHAMSHAD songs will always remain with songs composed by NAUSHAD,GULAM MOHMMED,SHYAMSUNDER,VINOD,HUSNLAL BH.and C.RAMCHANDRA.and O.P.NAYYER.

The male star in the video is Ranjan. The song seems to be sung by Bhanumati herself, who was a singing star of the south..

Her voice has such khanak; she was above all these niceties whether she sang for a particular MD. Like in old times MDs used to come up with the best irrespective of the budget of the film

The male actor is not Nagendra Rao,
It is RANJAN(100%)sure.
Ranjan acted in many hindi movies like Madari(1959)Chandralekha(1948-Arun ji Am I right ??) and in his 2nd innings he acted in villaneous roles in Hindi Movies.He sported a different style of moustache, If my memory serves me right and has got a unique type of nose.
If my memory serves me right, he is very good at sword fighting on screen and off screen also
