In the process of searching for some rare songs sung by G M Durrani, I came across a song ‘chamkat damkat daamini’ sung by him in the film GEET GOVIND (1947) with Aabha and Geeta Dutt. I have not heard the name of the film nor the song. I am not even aware of Aabha, one of the playback singers in this song. Perhaps she may be one of those ‘one-film’ playback singers.
Fortunately, some information on the film is available on the internet according to which the film was produced under the banner of Kanu Desai Productions and directed by Ramchandra Thakur. The star cast included Prem Adeeb, Leela Desai, Urmila, Sulochana Chatterjee, David, Rampyari, Jawahar Kaul, Bhagwan Das, Ram Singh etc. There were 14 songs in the film of which Pandit Indra Chandra and Baalam Pardesi penned 11 and 3 songs respectively. All the songs were set to music by Gyan Dutt. I could locate only 4 songs from this film on the net.
From the name of the film, it would appear that the film’s story may have been based on Geet Govinda written by Jayadeva. Obviously the story has to revolve around Krishna leela. Since Geet Govinda of Jayadeva is a lyrical drama, I am not surprised that the film had 14 songs.
Only the audio clip is available of this song under discussion which is written by Pandit Indra Chandra. I guess from the star cast and the wordings of the lyrics that the song may have been picturised on Prem Adeeb, Leela Desai and Urmila

I think the producer of this movie, Kanu Desai, must be the famous Art Director of his era. His name was associated with several hits of Prakash Pictures (Ram Rajya etc.) & also of V. Shantaram. He was also a close associate of Director Ramchandra Thakur.
