“Ratnawali” (1945) was directed by Surendra Desai. The movie had Surendra, Ratan Mala, Maya, K N Singh, Usha Mantri, Leela Mishra etc in it.
Here is a song from this movie. This song is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewaali and Surendra. Rammurty Chaturvedi is the lyricist if online sites are to be belived. These sites also mention that the song is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewaali and Shamshad Begam. How can Surendra’s voice be mistaken for Shamshad Begam is something I am unable to understand. Perhaps this erroneous information may have been there in the HFGK itself because myswar (known to rely on HFGK) also contains the same misleading information.
