Kisi ko hansi mili kisi ko rulaayi

“Shankar Seeta Anusuya”(1965) was a Madhur Pictures production. It was directed by Manibhai Vyas. The movie had Mahipal, Anita Guha, Manhar Desai, Nirupa Roy, Helen, Sulochana, B M Vyas, Shahu Modak, Dev Kumar etc in it.

Here is what Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia has to say about this obscure mythological movie:

SHANKAR SITA ANUSUYA-1965 is a mix up of stories from Shiv puran and Ramayana. The story, screenplay, dialogues were by Pt. Madhur, who produced this film under his own banner Madhur Films. The direction was by Manibhai Vyas.

The cast included Nirupa Roy as Devi Narmada, Mahipal as Sri Ram, Anita Guha as Sita, Sulochana as Sati Anusuya, Manhar Desai as Vishnu and many other regulars in various roles. This Manhar Desai, who specialised in Mythological and Gujrathi Historical/social films was a Christian named MALCOM ALFREDO DESAI(1917 – 1992),from Goa. He changed his name to suit the films he was doing here.

Sati Anusuya had become very well known for her celestial powers and her stregth as a Sati mata. Uma once asked Shankar if it was true and coaxed him to test her. Accordingly, Bramha, Vishnu and Mahesh went to her ashram in the guise of yogis. Anusuya treated them with due respect but when they expressed a desire for her itself, in a rage she changed them into infants. The respective wives of these Gods, namely, Laxmi, Bhahmini and Uma came to look for them and begged mercy to Anusuya who changed them back to original forms.

Uma went away with Shankar. After few days when Shankar Parvati were going through airways to Kailas, they saw Ram in Panchwati searching for Sita who was abducted by Ravana. Shankar tells Uma that Ram is Vishnu Avtar, but she does not believe him and changes herself as Sita and meets Ram. Vishnu ji recognises Umaji and calls her ‘Hey Mata ji’. Uma is convinced, but Shankar is angry on her. The story has many subplots. The film further depicts Ram Ravan Yudh, Seeta Agni Pariksha, Return to Ayodhya, Sending Sita away and finally Sita taken by Bhoomi after Ashwamedh Yadnya etc. Its almost Ramayan in the second Half.

One song from this movie has been discussed in the past.

Here is another song from the movie. This background song is sung by Rafi and the picturisation which shows Nirupa Ray falling on bad days.

Kavi Pradeep is the lyricist. Music is composed by Pt Shivram.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

Song-Kisi ko hansi mili to kisi ko rulaayi (Shankar Seeta Anusuya)(1965) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Kavi Pradeep, MD-Pt Shivram

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)

Kisi ko hansi mili to
Kisi ko rulaai
kahin par hai maatam
kahin shehnaayee
yugon se kahaani
ye hi chali aayi
apnaa apnaa bhaag
hai bhaai

koi chhuye maati to
ban jaaye sona aa aa
koi chhuye maati to
ban jaaye sona
kisi ko mila haaye
umr bhar ka rona
dekho kahin bhi jaake
padega dikhaai
kahin sukhi jeewan
kahin kathinaayi
yugon se kahaani ye hi chali aayi
apnaa apnaa bhaag hai bhaai

milte kisi ko yahaan
bina maange moti ee ee ee
milte kisi ko yahaan
bina mange moti
kahin kaanton waale path par
zindgaani roti
dekho re naseeb ki
ye dekho nithuraai
kahin hanse nain kahin
aankhen dabdabaai
yugon se kahaani ye hi chali aayi
apnaa apnaa bhaag hai bhaai
kisi ko hansi mili to
kisi ko rulaai
kahin par hai maatam
kahin shehnaayee
yugon se kahaani ye hi chali aayi
apnaa apnaa bhaag hai bhaai
