Pyaar hai ik nishaan kadmon ka

This article is written by Pamir Harvey, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.
This is the title song of Mukti (1977). Death and Loss play a central role in the film in different forms. Thus this song is used in bits and parts throughout the film. I have included the complete audio version and also the bits which I could find, which were used in the film. Since these bits give away the ending of the film, a SPOILER ALERT! Please don’t watch the videos of the film, if you don’t want the ending to be revealed.
At the end of the 70s Mohd. Rafi was used by Pancham very rarely. Rafi’s talents were put to use only if some directors or actors asked for it specifically, or if a second male singer was needed for a duet. The third possibility, where R. D. Burman employed his talents was for a philosophical songs, like it is the case in this song. Rafi does his job more than satisfactorily using the highs and lows of emotions, which his voice was able to express like no other.

mil jaati hai
sansaar mein
sansaar se mukti
milti nahin
mar ke bhi magar
pyaar se mukti
pyaar hai ik nishaan kadmon kaa aa
pyaar hai ik nishaan kadmon kaa aa
jo musaafir ke baad rehtaa hai
pyaar hai ik nishaan kadmon kaa aa
jo musaafir ke baad rehtaa hai
bhool jaate hain log sab lekin
kuchh naa kuchh phir bhi yaad rehtaa hai
pyaar hai ek nishaan kadmon kaa
rok leti hain raah mein yaadein
jab bhi raahon se ham guzarte hain
rok leti hain raah mein yaadein
jab bhi raahon se ham guzarte hain
kho gaye kehkahaaon mein jo unko
aansuon mein talaash karte hain
dil pe halki si chot lagti hai
dard aankhon se phoot behtaa hai
pyaar hai ik nishaan kadmon kaa
kuchh bhi to kam nahin hua dekho
zakhm hain phool hain bahaarein hain
kuchh bhi to kam nahin hua dekho
zakhm hain phool hain bahaarein hain
tum nahin ho magar tum hi tum ho
sab tumhaari hi yaadgaaren hain
toot jaane se toot jaate hain
dil ke rishte ye kaun kehta hai
pyaar hai ik nishaan kadmon kaa
ye galat hai ke marnewaalon ko
ye galat hai ke marnewaalon ko
zindagi se nijaat milti hai
ye galat hai ke marnewaalon ko
zindagi se nijaat milti hai
is bahaane se gham ke maaron ko
aur lambi hayaat milti hai
maana zanjeeren toot jaati hain
aadmi phir bhi qaid rehta hai
bhool jaate hain log sab lekin
kuchh naa kuchh phir bhi yaad rehtaa hai
pyaar hai ik nishaan kadmon kaa
jo musaafir ke baad rehtaa hai

Great Harvey ji !!
listening this song first time ! Rafi saab always great !!
and thanks for this Rafi-Pancham jodi song. for the last couple of months i am also concentrating on Rafi saab’s songs from the late seventies and different type of songs from the Rafi-Pancham jodi.
i do also feel the same what you mentioned about Rafi saab’s utilisation in the late seventies.

Thanks Pamirji for this MR-RD jodi song. What you have said about RD using Rafi saab is true. Rafi saab was faithful to every MD during his entire career. He was an angel.
Missing the songs of Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin-77 “Chaand mera dil….” and the famous qawwali “Hai agar dushman dushman…..” on the blog. Mujhe pata hai ki aap, Avinashji ya Prakashji ne ye gaane Atulji ko bheje hi honge, just confirming. 🙂

Khyati ji , thanks for enquiring !!
i have neither send the songs as mentioned by you, nor i will be sending them as these are not the part of my action plan. (and since i will try with less popular songs to avoid clashing similar songs).
But ,surely i would like to read your articles with the above songs !!
