Getting others to part with their money is not an easy task and it is quite a skilful job. It is interesting to notice that people who haggle with Rikhshaw wala for petty amount of sum leave much bigger amount in tips at supposedly high end places. People who may not bother to donate money for genuine causes think nothing before donating for fashionable causes.
This song from “Chaar Chaand” (1953) takes a dig at these double standards. Beggars do not get alms, but better dressed and smooth talking people manage to get money from the same people. So the lesson is that one needs to beg fashionably, calling it as donation for some relief fund meant for needy individuals, when in reality it may be for their own relief.
This hard hitting song from “Chaar Chaand” (1953) is sung by Shivram and Mubarak Begam. Shewan Rizvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Nashaad. I wonder if this Shivram is the same person who was a music director those days.
Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to say how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable redaers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics (Provided by Nitin Shah)
ek din gasht e mohabbat se hua mera guzar
gham ka maara hua ek shakhs wahaan aaya nazar
jiski patloon pe paiband lage thhe sattar
haal poochha to laga kehne wo aahen bharkar
kya
kisi ki jeb se paise nikalte hain bade dhang se
kisi ki jeb se paise nikalte hain bade dhang se
ye duniya hai
ye duniya hai
ye duniya hai
yahaan per
bheekh bhi milti hai fashion se
o o o o
khuda ke naam per koi ekanni tak nahin deta
khuda ke naam per koi ekanni tak nahin deta aa
phira lete hain munh
jo naam hai bhagwaan ka leta
arre bhai
yahi sunte chale aaye hain ham to apne bachpan se
ye duniya hai yahaan per
bheekh bhi milti hai fashion se
o o o o
yahaan saude dikhawat ke
dukaanen hain sajaawat ki ee ee ee ee
haaaaan
yahaan per dhol mein hai pol
aur baaten banaawat ki
arre baaten banaawat ki
yahaan baaten banaawat ki
haaaaan aan aan
dikhaakar jhoothe sapne
chaahe jo lelo mahaajan se
dikhaakar jhoothe sapne
chaahe jo lelo mahaajan se
ye duniya hai
ye duniya hai
ye duniya hai yahaan per
bheekh bhi milti hai fashion se
Volume of the song is so low that it is hardly heard at all, I wonder any of the music lovers has actually tried to hear it as there is not even one complain about that on the blog !!!
Sir, sorry for the delayed response. I have noted your comments on the same day but was waiting to listen this song, since i have not heard this song before.
Sir, with ‘Head phone’ it sounds better and more clear.
thanks !!
Excellent song !!
– Atul ji – i like your example of the ‘haggling’ with the rickshaw wala’. I remember, my parents always teach me to avoid that since the rickshaw wala does hard work to carry us, and in there discussion, what you have said, was always mentioned
– One thing always strikes me about the ‘hypocrisy’ and ‘double standards’ in our society as mentioned in this song also. This song is from 1953, Then in Sahir’s poetry it has always been there. Since when it exists in our society? Since when this started? Does it (the decline of moral, values, ethics) increase suddenly after we got independence?
– Some of our regular contributors and well wishers are staying abroad. How they feel about this problem (hypocrisy, double standards) ?
does it exists in other countries also?
