Ek armaan mera

Posted on: July 29, 2013

“Ek Armaan Mera” (1959) was a Filmistan Production. It was directed by Gunjal. The movie had P Kailash, Jayshree Gadkar, Sohan Kapila, Malika, Manju etc in it.

Going by the starcast, this appears to be a B grade movie. I was not aware that Filmistan had fallen to such hard days by late 1950s. Or there may be some reason why they produced a movie like this with such unknown names.

Today (29 july 2013) is the seventh death anniversary of S D Batish (14 december 1914- 29 july 2006). On this occasion, here is an obscure song from this obscure movie.

Only the audio of this song is available which was uploaded by a diehard Geeta Dutt fan, namely Parag Sankla. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt. The song is written by Madhusudan Bhagalpuri. Wow ! so we had a Hindi movie lyricist from Bhagalpur (Bihar) too ! We know that Ashok Kumar was born in Bhagalpur, and this Madhusudan Bhagalpuri must be the only lyricist in Hindi movies to come from that place. Too bad that he apparently only wrote two songs in this movie and that was all. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this lyricist.

Music of this song were composed by S D Batish. Yes, S D Batish, more commonly known as a singer had composed music in a few movies too including this movie. In a few cases, he had composed music under the name of Nirmal, but here he apparently composed music in his original name.

Song-Ek armaan mera (Ek Armaan Mera)(1959) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Madhusudan Bhagalpuri, MD-S D Batish

Lyrics

ek armaan mera
dil to pehchaan mera
ek armaan mera
dil to pehchaan mera
karna bahaane dilrubaaa
ek armaan mera
dil to pehchaan mera

ulfat ke taaron pe
naghma sunaaun
soyi bahaaron ko
phir se jagaaun
komal kali pe rangat chadhaa ke
bhanwron ki toli mein main gungunaaun
jee bhar ke nazren to milaaa
ek armaan mera
dil to pehchaan mera

mehakti hawaayen
falak mein bahaaun
chamkte sitaaron ki jholi bhar laaun
dharti pe jannat ka naksha banaa ke
laakhon armaanon ka mela lagaaun
dil ki tu dhadkan ban ke aaaa
ek armaan mera
dil to pehchaan mera

ek armaaan meraaa
ek armaaan meraaa
ek armaaaan meraaa

Filmistan was in very bad state, when all the stalwarts left in around 1957. Shashadhar Mukerji started his own ‘Filmalaya’. Filmistan was then in the hands of Tolaram Jalan, who was not a keen film-maker. ,Sanskar’ ‘Abhiman’, ‘Pati Parmeshwer’, ‘Jamane ko Badal dalo’, ‘Maine jeena shikh liya’ were some of the super flop films made by Filmistan after 1957. Later people remembered Filmistan as a studio only & forgot about Filmistan as a big Film production company which had made number of excellent & hit films between 1946 & 1957!
