Today (31 july 2013) is the 33rd death anniversary of Rafi(24 december 1924- 31 july 1980). Today is the day when we pay our heartfelt tribute to him. It is not that we do not remember him on the other days of the year except his anniversaries. Far from it. We in this blog have averaged more that one Rafi song a day for the five years and more that this blog has been in existence. In other words, we remember him everyday. He is in our thoughts everyday in almost every waking hours and sometimes in our sleeping hours as well in our dreams.
Rafi saab has sung around 5000 songs and we have the list of all these songs available on internet which offers valuable information about his songs. And we in this blog have covered almost 40 percent of all Rafi songs. With time, I am sure that we will be able to cover almost all the Rafi songs that are available.
Here is an iconic song from my childhood days. This song is from “Das Lakh” (1966). This song, which has the words “Das Lakh” in its lyrics was hugely popular in its time. It is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. I never got to watch the movie, but now I know that this song figures in the movie twice. The first time it is picturised as a beggar song on Sanjay Khan and Babita who sing this song on streets. This song figures in the movie a second time towards the end of the movie on stage where people have gathered to celebrate the wedding of Om Prakash and Marorama.
Ravi is the lyricist as well as the music director of this song.

Am SO happy to read the tributes paid to Rafi saab on this blog today. He was a very special singer – and a very special person.
Today, as this blog logs Rafi saab’s 2000th song, it shows its love and respect for him. Credit must go to this blog too – thank you, Atul.

There is a small typo in the third para. The film is from 1966 as stated elsewhere, not 1988.
Who was the lyricist? One website lists Prem Dhawan for all songs of this film (including this song by Rafi and Asha Bhosle but they say that the female version of this song sung by Asha Bhosle was written by Ravi himself.
