Today (31 july 2013) is Mumtaz’s 66 th birth anniversary. I find it an interesting coincidence that her peak in Hindi movies coincided with the peak of Rajesh Khanna. Mumtaz bowed out of movie industry just as Rajesh Khanna lost his crown in mid 1970s.
Rajesh Khanna- Mumtaz pair was easily the most popular pair of its time. The duo were last seen in “Prem Kahaani” (1975). So this movie was the swansong of this pair.
Here is a song from “Prem Kahaani” (1975). This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised as a get together song where Mumtaz is asked to sing this song. The picturisation also shows Shashi Kapoor and others, with Rajesh Khanna trying to get a peek in from the outside.

Happy Birthday Mumu.
She lit up the screen with her sparkling presence. She was supremely confident in front of the camera. I love watching her on screen. Dancing/romance/comedy/tragedy/emotional drama she excelled at all.
She worked very hard for her success and deserved every bit of it.

Wow, I didn’t even realise it is Mumtaz’s birthday today. Thanks to this blog, we don’t miss out anniversaries anymore.

Btw, Atul, Prem Kahani was not the last movie of Rajesh-Mumtaz together. They were to be seen together in Aaina (1977) also.
