“Aadhi Raat Ke Baad” (1965) was produced by T C Dewan and directed by Naanbhai Bhatt under the banner of Movie Fare productions. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Ragini, Sailesh Kumar, Agha, Sajjan, Ulhas, Murad, Jankidass, Rajan Haksar, Padma Chawhan, Naina, Balam, Randhir, Kundan, Majnu, Mohan Lal etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie. It is sung by Lata. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.
The YT link mentions the title of this song as “Badi rangeen hai Rangoon ki shaam”. On going through the picturisation, Raagini and a few other ladies are seen dressed oriental style, so may be the song is about “Rangoon” (even though the pronounciation sounds like “rangon” viz colours ).

Looking at the setting of the scene, costumes and the rest of the lyrics describing a place, I think it’s “Rangoon”, not “rangon”.

It is ‘Rangoon’; because the story of the movie takes place in ‘Rangoon’, Burma !!

Yes, in all likelihood it is Rangoon. All the pointers point to Rangoon and if one listens to Lata carefully, she does seem to say “Rangoon ki yeh shaam”.
The iconic “Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon” remains the most famous Rangoon song, though.
Since Burma became Myanmar, Rangoon has also become Yangon. These names sound so alien and unfamiliar, don’t they? The ‘apnapan’ oozes out from Burma and Rangoon! Imagine singing – Mere Piya Gaye Yangon!!!
This song should be tagged under “Songs about a place” category. Or an altogether new category such as “City songs” can be created to accommodate this and many other songs of similar ilk.

I have not seen the movie but my memory says its story based in RANGOON,so definatelly its RANGOON and NOT RANGON.All songs are worth listening,parti.Gori tori baanki hay hay hay ….by Manna de ,By the way I remember very well in 1964 when this movie and songs were released Radio Ceylone started its late Night programme,which was sheduled daily from 12.00 in the night till 01-30 for its listners in east africa,all songs of AADHI RAAT KE BAAD,were playing under title AADHI RAAT KE BAAD.
