Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Dheere dheere sang mere gaao o baabuji

Posted on: August 3, 2013

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Continuing the series of A to Z of Rafi Sahab’s songs, we reach the alphabet ‘ D ‘. I am delighted with this Rafi-Asha duet from the film ‘ Rangeela ‘(1953). The composer of this film is Jamal Sen and the lyricist of this song is S H Bihari.

Three songs from this film are posted making this the fourth song. The video is not available so we have to settle for the audio link.

About this series of A-Z of Rafi’s songs, the intention here is to bring forward some of the songs which would eventually have found the place in the blog. I shall consciously look for songs which are unknown and not many people are aware of. But occasionally I will include a popular hit song too, if i feel it should not have to wait outside from more than 2000 Rafi songs already posted.

The challenge here is to include as many different modes of Rafi’s singing style as possible in 25/26 odd songs in this series. There are scores of songs in the list starting with ‘D’. If I want to go through all the songs, check if they are posted and than hear and decided, if it is inspiring enough, it will take forever. So for the time being I am relying on instinct and have randomly selected this song, which sounded melodious the first time. In fact I finding equally good songs all the time that I am spending on the net. But than the rule here is one song per alphabet or else this series would never get over.

There is a whole genre of ‘dheere dheere’ songs in hindi film music, even though there is no category here for such songs. ‘dheere dheere bol koyi sun na le’, ‘dheere dheere chal chand gagan mein’ , ‘dheere dheere machal aye dil-e-beqaraar’, ‘dheere dheere se meri zindagi mein aana’ etc.

So let’s hear and enjoy this innocent and cute duet song.

Song-Dheere dheere sang mere gaao o baabuji (Rangeela)(1953) Singers-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD-Jamal Sen

Lyrics

dheere dheere sang mere gaao o baabuji
dheere dheere sang mere gaao

aisi reet tumhaari

aaya kaun sureela dekhoon
aaya kaun sureela dekhoon
aaya kaun sureela

bhola bhaala pardesi hoon
arrey bhola bhaala pardesi hoon
mera naam rangeela
rangeela
o mera naam rangeela
mere mann ko bhaaye raaja
mere mann ko bhaaye raaja
tera geet raseela

tera geet raseela
raseela

dayaa karo mujhe na banaao
