Today I found one of my colleague taking printouts of what looked like a chapter on thermodynamics, looking quite serious. On my query, he explained that his Engineering college going daughter has ordered him to prepare her presentation on thermodynamics. You will face this situation a few years from now, he told me.
Well, what does he know. I told him that I face this kind of situation not only from my school going daughter but from my non school going (but working) wife even today. My wife makes me draft her letters to her superiors, which is a tall order because it takes me considerable time to make sense of what it is that she wants me to write. And when we are together during vacations, she sometimes gives me some thick medical book and asks me to study some chapter from it which I am then supposed to explain to her when she is back from her shopping.
My daughter phoned me this evening and ordered me to prepare a speech for her debate which is to take place tomorrow. She has to speak in favour of the statement that “Peer pressure is beneficial for us”. She gave me the deadline of 8 PM to write an article on this topic.
She phoned me again at 7-30 PM enquiring whether the article was ready. I told her that I would give her some points and she should expand on them in her own words. No, I am extremely busy and I have no time for that, she stated. I wondered how she could be so busy that she had deputed the preparation of her debate topic to one of her parents.
I wondered if I too should depute this task to one of my article contributors. 🙂 This was a task that I needed to do myself of course. So I sat down in front of a computer and started typing out a few ideas that occured to me. I also searched online and found that this item- a standard topic for Kendriya Vidyalaya students all over India was being discussed. I quickly took some ideas from that discussion too. It took me about an hour to prepare a write up that sounded satisfactory enough. I then e mailed it so she may be able to go through it and learn it (by rote, most probably) for tomorrow. 🙂
As it is, I teach her a few subjects when she joins me during her vacations. For that , I have to go through her text books. I will obviously need to study more advanced books as my daughter goes to higher classes. 🙂
Yes, I have to do lot of “mehnat” in future. 🙂
Here is just the song that I need to inspire myself. 🙂 This song is from “Padosi” (1971). This movie was produced and directed by Jagdish Pant. The movie had Dileep Raj, Rehana Sultan, Prithviraj Kapoor, Dhuman, Jayshree T etc in it.
This song is sung, written as well as composed by Ravi. So Ravi has done all the hard work himself as far as creating this song is concerned.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
Mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat se toofaanon mein bhi
saahil tujhe milega aa aa
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat ka hi paisa sabke
dukh sukh mein kaam aata hai
mehnat ka hi paisa sabke
dukh sukh mein kaam aata hai
bin mehnat ka paisa jaise aata
waise hi jaata hain
mehnat se parwat ke
seene mein bhi chaman khilega
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
aane waali naslein tujhse
kyaa kyaa aas lagaaye hain
aane waali naslein tujhse
kyaa kyaa aas lagaaye hain
desh ne tere bal par jaane
kitney khwaab sajaaye hain
tu himmat kar saara bharat
tere saath chalega aa
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat se toofanon mein bhi
saahil tujhe milega aa
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega
mehnat kar le bandey
mehnat ka phal milega

Enjoyed reading the post very much 🙂 and thanks for introducing another new song today.
Dilip Raj was the lead in KA Abbas films – ‘Shehar Aur Sapna’ (1963) and ‘Aasmaan Mahal’ (1965). He has appeared in maybe about a dozen films in the sixties and early seventies.
thank god !!!! i am past all that —- now i only have to straighten up the house after she leaves for work—— we all go through this phase—– don’t remember how much trouble my mom went through during my school days— god bless her;)
Nitin ji,
Indeed Dilip Raj was the son of veteran actor p. Jairaj. Jairaj, himself a Telugu person, had married a Punjabi woman and had 2 sons and 3 daughters from her.
Dilip Raj perhaps started from Daadi ma-1966 and worked in 16 films. he wrote some stories too.he acted in some TV serials also.
As I scan the information in the Geet Kosh, the name of Dilip Raj appears in the 1962 film ‘Alhaa Udal’, in which Jairaj and Nirupa Roy have played the lead roles. Then, in the next three years, Dilip Raj has done one film each year under the direction of Khwaja Ahmed Abbas. In 1963 it is ‘Shehar Aur Sapna’, 1964 it is ‘Hamara Ghar’ and in 1965 it is ‘Aasmaan Mahal’. He then appeared in ‘Daadi Maa’ in 1966.
Another interesting thing that I noticed is that the name Dilip Raj appears in a film from 1956 titled ‘Parivaar’. The interesting part is that the lead pair in this film are Jairaj and Usha Kiron. Is it possible that the Dilip Raj in this film is a child artist or a very young artist? Or maybe another actor? I am not sure.
Dilip Raj was indeed the son of the actor Jairaj, who acted from silent era movies to mostly in the 1950s. His son was a good for nothing parasite who forced his father to sell lots of properties around Mumbai to finance his failing businesses! Jairaj with his daughter had to fight him in the court as he made his father prisoner in his own home and withheld medical treatment so that Jairaj would die!
