“Bhaagambhaag” (1956) was produced and directed by Bhagwan. The movie had Bhagwan, Kishore Kumar, Smriti Biswas, Badri Prasad, Shashikala, Kumkum, Bhagwan, Tiwari etc in it.

Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. The song is picturised as a dance song. As if often the case with me, I am unable to identify the lady dancing and lip syncing on this song and I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.

Here is this interesting song from “Bhaagambhaag” (1956) where O P Nayyar’s peppy Punjabi style song gets picturised as a Bharat Natyam dance song in the movie. 🙂

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-Aeji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar (Bhaagam Bhaag)(1956) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

aeji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar
tere mere pyaar ka lamba hai safar
aeji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar
tere mere pyaar ka lamba hai safar
aeji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar

rut hai diwaani dil hai diwaana
julm hai balma hosh mein aana
yeh hai zamaana sainyaan apni bahaar ka
yeh hai zamaana sainyaan apni bahaar ka
apni bahaar ka lamba hai safar
aeji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar
tere mere pyaar ka
tere mere pyaar ka lamba hai safar
aji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar

yaad karoongi jab teri batiyaan
dans jaayengi chaandani ratiyaan
kaise sahoongi dukh tere intezaar ka
kaise sahoongi dukh tere intezaar ka
tere intezaar ka lamba hai safar
aeji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar
tere mere pyar ka
tere mere pyaar ka
lamba hai safar
aeji jaane jigar tum chale ho kidhar

The only song I had heard from Bhagam Bhag (1956) was the Kishore & Rafi duet. Need to listen to the other songs from the movie.

The dance is KANCHANMALA and the other actors featuring in the song is Mirajkar(with Mysore turban-as an audience-as a south Indian)and Smriti Bishwas,Badri Prasad,Kishore Kumar, Bhagwan

Kanchanmala also acted in ‘Zimbo’ , ‘Lutera'(* Dara Singh) & some other films too. I think she had also acted as a heroine in a C-grade Hindi movie! I don’t remember the name of the movie.

Indeed quaint picturisation, Bharat Natyam mixed with distinctly northern gestures………..
