Here is the last song to be posted from film BAHAREN PHIR BHI AAYENGI-1966 on this Blog.

“Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi” (1966) was a Guru Dutt banner film, launched in early 64. To start with Guru Dutt was the Director and the Male lead also. 11 (eleven) reels of the film were shot and suddenly Guru Dutt was no more ! Naturally, the hero and the Director had to be changed. Dharmendra was taken as a Hero and the Direction was handed over to Shahid Lateef.

Originally, the Music Director was S D Burman and he had also prepared the Title track music. No one knows what happened, but Dada withdrew from the film and O P Nayyar took over. The Title track made by Dada was later used in ” Jewel Thief” for ‘ye dil na hota bechara’.

The most famous song of the film- “Aapke haseen rukh”, originally pictured and filmed on Guru Dutt had to be reshot with Dharmendra. The other wonderful song ‘woh hans ke miley hum se’ by Asha was a solo on Mala Sinha, so it was retained. While listening and watching this song, you can feel the touch of Guru Dutt, who was a master in picturising sad songs. Both these songs are posted here already.

“Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi” (1966)story was inspired by the 1938 film of Saigal- ” President”, wherein 2 sisters love the same man and try to sacrifice for each other. In President, the backdrop was a Mill, in this film it is a News Paper office. The cast of the film was Mala Sinha,Dharmendra,Tanuja,Rehman,Deven verma,Johnny walker etc .

Though the cast and the plot were good, the film went wayward, as the handling was a mixed one. The film starts well but the excessive screen space to Johnny Walker and his antics, songs etc spoiled the tempo of the film.

Mala Sinha( who started her career by singing on A.I.R. Calcutta) was well known for overacting. As long as Guru Dutt was there, he must have controlled her performance, but later on she was on her own, becoming crude and unbearable. The story had emphasis on the two sisters, Mala Sinha and Tanuja. So Dharmendra seems to have gone through the motions routinely. otherwise also he is not known for ‘acting’ anyway, but his disinterest is visible.

The only saving grace of the film was the music by O P Nayyar. He and Asha were still together and she has rendered one of her best songs ‘wo hans ke miley hum se’ in this film.

The story of the film was-

“Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi,” in the fine tradition of Guru Dutt Films, is a story of lofty ideals, of laughter and tears, of tense drama. You meet the high minded, young newspaper reporter Jitendra (Dharmendra), who exposes corruption and profiteering in a coal mine only to lose his job. You admire Amita (Mala Sinha), the boss of the newspaper, who fires Jitendra but later reinstates him when she realises the truth of his report, reminding her of the high ideals for which her father founded the newspaper. Jitendra was brought a news meaning into Amitas life. You will love Amitas younger sister, Sunita (Tanuja), impulsive and delightful, who meets Jitendra under unusual circumstances and falls in love with him. Then there is Verma (Rehman), a director in Amita’s newspaper and a friend of the family, who secretly loves Amitat; and Vikram (Deven Verma), Vermas frivolous younger brother, who has set his eyes on Sunita. You will laugh at Chunilal (Johny), Jitendra’s friend and a press photographer and at his romantic adventures. Ruby Chatterjee (Madhvi) a bright telephone operator in the office, who is Chunni’s latest conquest, however puts Chunni in his place.

All seems well when suddenly fate plays its hand and Amita’s world is shaken from its very foundations. She learns, when it is too late, that she is in love with the same man her sister, Sunita loves. The other unprincipled directors in her newspaper, to whom most of her shares are mortgaged do not see eye to eye with her and want to throw her out. And one night, Sunita, leaves home for what seems to Amita no reason to all.

Amita too realises that her sister is in love with Jetendra and she too is ready to sacrifice. However, seeing the treachery of her co-directors,Sunita becomes insane, gets a heart attack and is dead.

The problems are sorted out automatically.( Thanks to Upperstall, interview of Abrar Alvi and my notes).

Let us enjoy the last remaining song of this film,by Asha Bhonsle.

Song-Koi keh de keh de ked de zamaane se (Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi)(1966) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Aziz Kashmiri, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics

o o o
o o o
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
o ho

koi kehde kehde kehde
zamaane se jaa ke
ke hum ghabraa ke
muhabbat kar baithhe
haaye muhabbat kar baithhe
koi kehde kehde kehde
zamaane se jaake
ke hum ghabraake
muhabbat kar baithhe
haaye muhabbat kar baithhe
koi kehde kehde kehde

ab jalta hai jale zamaana
banaaye fasaana
nahin ghabraayenge hum
dil ka sauda kiya hai khushi se
daren kyun kisi se
ke hum to abhi se hain thaame jigar baithhe
haaye mohabbat kar baithhe
koi kehde kehde kehde
zamaane se jaake
ke hum ghabraa ke
muhabbat kar baithe
haaye muhabbat kar baithe
koi kehde kehde kehde

kyun na raahon mein kaliyaan bichha den
jahaan ko dikha den
muhabbat ki jaadugiri
aaj dil ko jabaan mil gayi hai
dil ki kali khil gayi hai
ye dunia nayi hai
jo karna thha kar baithe
haaye muhabbat kar baithe
koi kehde kehde kehde
zamaane se jaa ke
ke hum ghabraa ke
mohabbat kar baithe
haaye muhabbat kar baithhe
koi kehde kehde kehde
