Today (24 november 2013) is the 69th birth anniversary of Amol Palekar (DOB 24 november 1944). On this occasion here is a song from “Apne Paraaye” (1980). This movie was directed by Basu Chatterji and produced by Mushir Alam. the movie had the usual starcast of Basu Chatterji movies, viz. Amol Palekar, Shabana Azmi, Girish Karnad, Utpal Dutt, Ashalata Wabgaonkar, Bharti Achrekar. This movie was based on a Bangla novel of Sharat Chandra Chattopadyay named “Nishkriti”.

Here is this song from “Apne Paraaye” (1980). It is a Krishna Bhajan which is sung by Yesudas and chorus and it is lip synced by Amol Palekar and a few kids. Shabana Azmi is also visible in the picturisation.

Yogesh is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Peevesie’s mom.

Peevesie’s Mom,

What a co-incidence, i remembered this song only 2-3 weeks ago while listening to songs from ‘Chitchor’. I had only the first line and tune.
I thought it was ‘shaam rang ranga re har pal mera re’ , thinking it is about evening and that ‘my every is coloured in the colours of evening’.

‘ Apne Paraye ‘ invokes memories of Diwali vacation in Belgaum. We left for Belgaum the day our school exams got over. The next day was
my uncle”s wedding. My sister went to see this movie with some aunts (from the other side of the family) on the day of the wedding, after the wedding got over. For this she got scolding from my mother. I felt so superior for not having gone to see the movie, and not being scolded 🙂 .

How some movie names are associated with some forgotten memories.
This movie was a tearjerker, though I never got to see it.

Thanks for those bitter-sweet memories.
Regards.
