O jee o jee teri muthhi mein hai jo khazaana

This article is the 9100th song post in the blog.

“Aawaaz” (1956) was directed by Zia Sarhadi for Mehboob Productions. The movie had Rajendra Kumar and Nalini Jaiwant in lead roles alongwith Usha Kiran, Zul Vellani, Nazir Hussain, Leela Chitnis, D K Sapru, Jagdeep, Anwar Hussain, etc playing the support roles.

The film had ten songs in it. As many as five of these songs were deleted from the movie. This must surely be a record for the highest number of deleted songs in a Hindi movie.

And seeing that Salil Chaudhary was the music director, one can well imagine that all the songs in the movie, whether deleted or retained, must have been gems.

Nine of these songs have already been discussed in the past.

The tenth song is an extremely rare song. So rare that it was not there on YT till I decided to discuss this song on a special occasion.

Special occasion, did I say ? Indeed I did. This song marks yet another century of songs for the blog. This is the 9100 th song of the blog, and the first century after we touched the 9000 mark last month. That was on 13th of november 2013, and it has taken me another 21 days to notch up this century. It is slow going by the usual rate of the blog. In the past, I had reasons like being on journey, grappling with slow internet etc. The reasons this time were altogether different. There are so many interesting things that I have been eagerly looking forward to discussing, but I find myself quite short of time which prevents me from writing long posts unlike how it was in the past.

Coming to this song itself, this song is special for several reasons. One reason is that it is a rare song, which was specially uploaded on YT for this occasion. Second reason is that this song is sung by an artist who is quite unknown.

The singer of this song is called Khursheed Baawra. Now we are aware of artists called Khursheed and artists called Baawra, but Khursheed Baawra. when I tried to find out about this artist by googling, I repeatedly came across Khursheed Bano and Khursheed Anwar, and there was hardly any information available on him.

I enquired about him from Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia. Here is what he has to share about Khursheed Baawra.

I do not have much info about Khurshid Baawra, except that he is in films since 50s and has sung several songs.

Some of his films are, Taj mahal, Humsaya, Barsat ki ek raat, Awaaz, Pehla pehla pyar, Kal kya hoga, Private detective, Baghdad ka jaadu, Fighting queen, Jungle king, jungle queen, Jungle ki duniya, Chetak aur Rana Pratap, Toofani Tirandaz, Bombay central, Jaalim Jaadugar, Tarzan aur jalpari etc. he sang mostly in B and C grade films, for songs usually shot on him only.

This information is easily the most comprehensive information available on Khursheed Anwar as of now. Hopefully we will be able to work on these clues to find more about him.

For now, let us listen to this fantastic song from “Aawaaz” (1956). Zia Sarhadi is the lyricist. Salil Chaudharay is the music director.

This song must be one of the deleted songs from the movie and so this song was perhaps not picturised. Or may be it was. I request our knowledheable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

PS- Now I have found the video of this song as well. It is picturised on a young Jagdeep who is seen lip syncing this song on streets of Bombay carrying a harmonium with him. I thank Prakashchandra for the video link to this song.

What what a fantastic song it is ! Wonderful lyrics, wonderful music and a voice that deserved far more number of breaks than what he received. This song is a gem and a song that fully deserves to be a special song in this blog.

And with this song, “Aawaaz”(1956) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

I take this opportunity to thank all the visitors, contributors and well wishers of this blog for their continued support and encouragement through thick and thin. We have come up a long way in our journey together, but we still have a long and enjoyable musical journey ahead of us. So here is hoping that we continue to reach newer and newer milestones on a regular basis and continue to discover gems like this. I once again thank one and all.

Song-O ji o ji teri mutthhi mein hai jo khazaana (Aawaaz)(1956) Singer-Khursheed Baawra, Lyrics-Zia Sarhadi, MD-Salil Chaudhary

Lyrics

o ji o ji
teri mutthhi mein hai jo khazaana
usse yaaron se naahin chhupaana
o jo o ji
ruk jaana
zara muskaana
hamen tadpa ke tarsa ke jaana naa
o ji o ji

arre bachke tu jaaye kahaan
o meri thokar mein saara jahaan
main jo apni kahoon daastaan
tere seene se utthhe dhuaan
behlaana na
mujhe jhoothe dilaason se behlaana na
o ji ruk jaana
zara muskaana
hamen tadpa ke tarsa ke jaana naa
o ji o ji

jeb jab tak hai teri bhari
tere pehloo mein neelam pari
jeb jis din bhi khaali huyi
shaan reh jaayegi sab dhari
itraana na
apni khoti athhanni pe itraana na
o ji ruk jaana
zara muskaana
hamen tadpa ke tarsa ke jaana naa
o ji o ji

chal mere dil chalen ham wahaan
ho na paise ka lafda jahaan
ye to duniya hai vyopaar ki
ismein apna thhikaana kahaan
pachhtaana na
chhod kar aisi duniya ko pachhtaana na
o ji ruk jaana
zara muskaana
hamen tadpa ke tarsa ke jaana naa
o ji o ji
teri mutthhi mein hai jo khazaana
usse yaaron se naahin chhupaana
o jo o ji
ruk jaana
zara muskaana
hamen tadpa ke tarsa ke jaana naa
o ji o ji

Bharatbhai
Thanks for the super voice of Khursheed Baawra. Where was he all these years. He sang the song with such gay abandon. WOW. Thanks for extricating the singer from cobweb of obscurity.
Few more of his songs from films : Mehfil-1957, Sher Dil-1954; Anokha Jungle-1956; Vijay Garh-1954;

At the time I wrote Bharatbhai name, he was credited for the lyrics. After that it was immediately changed/corrected after noticing the mistake.
In fact if you read carefully I have given full credit to Atulji for taking pains to upload the song

Wow! What a lovely song. It is surprising that someone with such voice quality did not make it big. Great find!
