“Bharthari” (1944) was a Navin Pictures Production which was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. The movie had Surendra as Bharthari, Mumtaj Shanti as Queen Pingala and Nagendra ( Pahadi Sanyal) as guru Gorakhnath, Kajjan, Sulochana, Dave, Babar etc.

Seven songs from “Bharthari”(1944) has been discussed in the past. Here is the eighth song from the movie.

This song is sung by Jahanara Kajjan. And what a smashing performance by her it is. Her impressively powerful and well groomed voice is bound to sweep the listeners off their feet.

Pt Indra Chandra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Khemchand Prakash.

Lyrics

ghoonghat pat naahin kholoon
ghoonghat pat naahin kholoon
mukh se kachhu naahin boloon
mukh se kachhu naahin boloon
nainan mein kaun basey
kaise bhed kholoon raajaa
ghoonghat pat naahin kholoon

madhur madhur unke bain
madhur madhur unke bain
sun sun jiyaa parat chain
ulajhe nit rahat nain
ulajhe nit rahat nain
man se man ko toloon raajaa
ghoon

ghoonghat pat naahin kholoon
ghoonghat pat naahin kholoon
nainan mein kaun basey
kaise bhed kholoon raajaa
ghoonghat pat naahin kholoon
ghoonghat pat
ghoonghat pat
ghoon

kar kar solah singaar
lekar kaliyan kaa haar
kar kar solah singaar
lekar kaliyan kaa haar
kab se preetam ke dwaar
baawari si doloon raajaa
baawari si doloon raajaa
baawari si doloon raajaa
ghoonghat pat naahin kholoon
ghoonghat

Dear Atul Saheb,
This film was seen in Rajkot in 1945,at that only names familiar with
Surendra and Mumtaz Shanti,,that songs was very ‘Bhiksha De De Maiya Pingla’ was popular, what a days and times,no partition and Whole India!!
Recently seen one Hindi movie ‘Dhoti,Lota aur Chowpaty’ (1975)produced and acted also by Mohan Chotti(Comedian)with many other Indian films stars(probably as guest artists) and Music given by Shamji Ghanshamji(never heard this name before) and many veteran lyricists have written songs, some songs are quite good, it is worth adding in this
Atulsongspedia.
Thanks
