“Same name confusion” , a term coined by our beloved in house encyclopaedia, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, is quite common among movie and music lovers. People, including some “reputed” sites confuse among artists of similar names and incorrect information about these artists are then faithfully cut and pasted by them from other sites and such information soon becomes viral on internet.
Not just artists, even movies suffer from this “same name confusion” because there are many movies with same titles. And in case similarly named artists have worked in similarly named movies as well then one can imagine how much disinformation it can lead to. For instance, Ghulam Haider composed music in “Shama” (1946) and Ghulam Mohammad composed music in “Shama” (1961). There are lots of movies where songs of one movie have been described as songs of the other movie or vice versa. In some cases the two movies and the two music directors are considered one and the same by “experts” ! I recall listening to one podcast on old music by a “reputed” music lover. During his discussion, he played a well known song by Ghulam Haider. He then informed his audience that this same Ghulam Haider later composed music for “Paakeezah” (1972) !
I had posted a song sung by Rafi from “Amar Shaheed” (1960) during 26 january 2014. One comment informed me that the movie year should be 1959. I looked at internet and found that there were many sites, including YT, that mentioned “Amar Shaheed” as a movie of 1959. The “Amar Shaheed” whose song I had discussed had music by Jamal Sen, but the “Amar Shaheed” mentioned in online sites had music by Vinod and Vasant Desai !
Under such circumstances, I consulted our own inhouse expert, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh. As always, he cleared up the matters in a big way. Here is what he mentioned in this matter:
AMAR SHAHEED-1960…
Producer/ Director -B R Panthulu
MD- Jamal Sen
A Dubbed film from Tamil movie- Veerpandiyan Kattaboman
Cast, Sivaji ganeshan,Gemini Ganeshan,Padmini,Ragini and other Southern actors
Total 10 songsAmar Shaheed- Unreleased film of the 50s
Producer/Director- Gajanan Jahagirdar
MD- Vinod and Vasant Desai
Cast-G.Jahagirdar,leela Chitnis etc.
Total 8 songs.
The songs of this film were recorded in 1952 only, but remained unreleased.
So the 1959 movie that many online sites mention should actually be regarded as an unreleased movie, whose songs were recorded in 1952. Online sites are giving the misleading information that it is a released movie from 1959.
Here is a song from this unreleased movie “Amar Shaheed” (UR)(1952). It is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Vinod.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.
Song-Do din ki khushi dekhi (Amar Shaheed)(UR)(1952) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Aziz Kashmiri, MD-Vinod
Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)
Do din ki khushi dekhi
do din ki khushi dekhi
phir gham ki ghata chhaayi
gham ki ghata chhaayi
ujdi huyi bagiya mein
ujdi huyi bagiya mein
do din ki bahaar aayi
do din ki bahaar aayi
do din ki khushi dekhi
do din ki khushi dekhi
apni to muqaddar mein
apni to muqaddar mein
likhe hain faqat aansoo
likhe hain faqat aansoo
hans le meri haalat par
hans le meri haalat par
o mere tamaashaayi
o mere tamaashaayi
do din ki khushi dekhi
do din ki khushi dekhi
khud apne hi haathon se
khud apne hi haathon se
phoonka hai chaman apna
phoonka hai chaman apna
taqdeer se maaron ko
taqdeer se maaron ko
kyun maut nahin aayi
kyun maut nahin aayi
do din ki khushi dekhi
do din ki khushi dekhi

What a melodious song in a sweet voice, though with melancholic overtones.
Thank you very much for this rare gem.
