Little was known about “Sanjog” (1943), a movie released seven decades ago, but that was only till we in this blog began to discuss the songs from this movie. Here is what Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia has to say about this movie:
SANJOG-43 was based on mistaken identity, a favourite topic of movie makers since then til today !
Deepak (Charlie) applies as a Secretary to the Maharaja of Pahadgunj. He is called there. When he reaches there, he is mistaken for Capt.Surendra(Anwar Hussain), the Son in law designate of the maharaja(A.Shah). He is taken to the palace along with his side kick Jugal Kishore (Wasti). The princess Bina Kumari(Mehtab) meets him and starts loving him. They spend good times together.
Meanwhile, the real Capt.Surendra reaches there and is mistaken as an applicant for secretary’s post. He is asked to wait. He is angry and goes away.
There are many comic situations in the film. Finally, when the secret is exposed, the Princess saves Charlie and they get married.
In this film, Suraiya, who does not act in the film, gave playback to Mehtab once again. She had started with playback to Mehtab in her career. The lyricist was D.N.Madhok, who had written the screen play and dialogues of this movie as well.
The music is by Naushad assisted by Ghulam Mohammad.
Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fifth song from the movie. It is sung by Suraiyya. The picturisation shows Mehtab lip syncing this song in a bid to woo Charlie while seated on the piano, with a bemused Charlie (the beneficiary of mistaken identity) looking on.
Suraiyya, then 13 years of age had given playback for Mehtab and Mehtab was not amused when she first became aware that she had to lip sync in the voice of a child !. Interestingly, she was only 17 years of age herself ! But in those days a girl was considered fully grown up at that age, and she indeed looks grown up and in full bloom in the picturisation.
D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.
Song-Aa more saanwre sainyaa (Sanjog)(1943) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-D N Madhok, MD-Naushad
aa morey saanwre sainya
mora jiya lehraaye
aa morey saanwre sainya
mora jiya lehraaye
kaale kaale baadal chhaaye
to bin saawan beeto jaaye
haaye
aa more saanwre sainya
aa more saanwre sainya
mora jiya lehraaye
leke sirhaane ki ott
main roye roye jaaun re
main roye roye jaaun re
tori qasam morey raaja
akeli ghabraaun re
akeli ghabraaun re
baali mori umar saanwre
ro ro naina bhaye baawre
haaye
aa morey saanwre sainya
aa morey saanwre sainya
mora jiya lehraaye
yaad tihaari jab aaye
mera jiya baithta jaaye
mera jiya baithta jaaye
aankhon se nikle paani
aur dil se nikle haaye
hamaare dil se nikle haaye
dil ki baat kahi na jaaye
kahe bina bhi raha na jaaye
haaye
aa morey saanwre sainya
aa morey sanware sainya
mora jiya lehraaye
mori atariya jo aao
main ankhiyaan bichhaaungi
main ankhiyaan bichhaaungi
abhi na aaye more raja
main jag ko sunaaungi
main jag ko sunaaungi
sab kuchh karna
preet na karna
preet hai maut bina ka marna
haaye
aa moren saanwre sainya
aa moren saanwre sainya
mora jiya lehraaye

It is a lovely movie. One must see this movie on the Net. A comedy by Charlie; you will laugh just by seeing him. I saw on TV service provider Hathway’s B&W channel 123.
