Nainon se nain milaa ke : Song No. 6
——————————————-
Since yesterday, I was looking for a song from Qaatil (1960), whose link was proving elusive, though other songs from the film are available on youtube. While looking for the song from I stumbled upon another duet which is in line this series of ‘nainon se nain milaa ke’.

This song is also a duet sung by Binapani Mukherjee with Mohammed Rafi sahab. Mulk Raj Bhakri is the lyricist and music directors are Hansraj Behl and Aziz Khan, as per myswar.com. The film is Roomal (1949), starring Nargis and Rehman. Two song from this film are posted :
Dil toota aur armaan lutey and
Main reg gayi ankhiyaan malti re .

Like the other songs of this film and in general songs of this era, this song is also instantly likeable. And this bit in the mukhdaa is the highlight of the song.

batti le ke dhoondh le ae ae
batti le ke dhoondh le
charaag le ke dhoondh le
ham sa milegaa na koyi
o gori
ham sa milegaa na koyi

This is a recording from radio, as per the uploader’s comments on youtube. When I heard the beginning of the song in Binapani Mukherjee’s voice, it seemed as if not a single word is clear. But slowly the words became understandable. Rafi sahab’s words on the other hand are as clear as always despite the waves in the transmission.

The heroine here hankering after ‘resham ki saadi’ and ‘gehna’ , the material tangible things. As these things though material convey the intangible things like feelings and emotions.

By the way I have located the song from ‘Qaatil'(1960) too via Google. The irony is that we are living in a bubble where the intangible /immaterial things are a click away, minus the conveyor belt.

Boley toh cake dikhaayi to detaa hai, lekin khaa nahin sakte ! 🙂 .

Song-Tujhse milaa ke naina kaanton ka haar pehna (Roomaal)(1949) Singers-Binapani Mukherji, Rafi, Lyrics-Mulk Raj Bhakri, MD-Hansraj Behl & Aziz Khan

Lyrics

Tujh se milaa ke naina
kaanton ka haar pehnaa
qismat soyee meri
qismat soyee
qismat soyee meri
qismat soyee
haaye meri qismat soyee
batti le ke dhoondh le ae ae
batti le ke dhoondh le
charaag le ke dhoondh le
ham sa milegaa na koyi
o gori
ham sa milegaa na koyi

jab se bedardi ee ee ee
teraa daaman pakdaa
ho bedardi ee ee
teraa daaman pakdaa
la ke na diyaa ham ko
gehnaa aur kapdaa
pehne padosan mhaadi
padosan mhaadi
resham ke saadi
resham ke saadi
jal ke maroon main
sharma ke maari
jal ke maroon main
sharma ke maari
kit kit royi
oye ham sa milegaa na koyi
o gori
ham sa milegaa na koyi

tujh se milaa ke naina
kaanton ka haar pehnaa
qismat soyee meri
qismat soyee
haay meri qismat soyee

o o o
resham ki tu baat chhod de ae
o gori baat chhod de
pehan le ab tu khaadi
pehan le ab tu khaadi ee ee ee
gayaa raaj angrezon kaa aa
gayaa raaj angrezon kaa
o gori
ham ko mili aazaadi
ho gori
ham ko mili aazaadi
kaalikh ghulaami waali
mushkil se hai dhoyee
ham sa milegaa na koyi
o gori
ham sa milegaa na koyi

tujh se milaa ke naina
kaanton ka haar pehnaa
haar pehnaa
qismat soyee meri
qismat soyee
haaye meri qismat soyee
batti le ke dhoondh le
charaag le ke dhoondh le
ham sa milegaa na koyi
o gori
ham sa milegaa na koyi

Nice post Nahm ji, thanks for this rare one!

The first line sounds like ‘talkh ghulamiyan ye’ . ‘Talkh’ means bitter.
