Today (15 august 2014) is the 68th Independence day of India. It is the seventh independence day for this blog.

We have seen seven republic days as well in the meanwhile. Almost all well known patriotic songs from Hindi movies as well as some well known NFS have been covered in the blog. But we still have several songs for the occasion that are not yet covered in the blog.

Patriotic songs in Hindi movies were mostly written after Indian independence, but some of these songs were written even before the independence, right under the nose of the British government and a few of these songs even managed to get passed by the censors before the Government got wise and tried to ban the songs. The song Door hato ae duniya waalon Hindustan hamaara hai (Kismat)(1943) . This song was purportedly meant to be a battle cry against Germany during the second war, but Indians were left in no doubt that this song was a battle cry for Indians against the British rulers.

Here is another song from another pre independence movie, namely “Humaayun” (1945). Those who are aware of Mughal history would know that Humaayun had lost his empire to Shershah before he managed to regain it after the death of Shershah. This song celebrates the occasion of regaining control of the empire. So in a way this song was letting Indians dream of the day when the country would once again belong to themselves. Unlike Humaayun, who regained his lost territory in five years, India regained her independence from Britain after two long centuries, which happened two years after the release of this movie.

Here is this song from “Humaayun”(1945). This song has (at least) one male voice, one female voice and chorus (male , female and combined). The female voice sounds like Shamshad Begam, whereas the male voice sounds familiar but I am unable to identify the voice. HFGK is silent as far as the singers of this song is concerned. Even the lyricist of this song is not known either. Shams Lucknowi and Anjum Pilibhiti are cited as the lyricists of this song by HFGK.

Music of this song is composed by Ghulam Haider.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

daata tori daya se
abb desh hai hamaara

jo desh kal nahin thhaa
woh desh phir hamaara
jo desh kal nahin thhaa
woh desh phir hamaara
chamka hai baadalon se

dooba hua sitaara

jo desh kal nahin thhaa

apni sharan mein raakho prabhu

bhagwan yeh bhakt tere
kyun kar na geet gaayen
bhagwan yeh bhakt tere
kyun kar na geet gaayen

mann ki bana ke maala
charnon pe ham chadhaayen

jo des kal nahin thhaa

jo desh kal nahin thha

woh desh phir hamaara

hooo lachhke kamariya mori
ho baalma balma

nain mila ke kiya kya ishaara
nain mila ke kiya kya ishaara
yeh pyaara pyaara
jo desh kal takk nahin thha

jo desh kal takk nahin thha

dil loot ke le gaya hai aankhon ka teri kaajal
o ho ho

jubna na howe maila
jubna na howe maila
chhodo ji mora aanchal

yeh din khusi ka din hai
todo na dil hamaara

woh desh phir hamara
jo desh kal nahin thha
woh desh phir hai hamaara

Atulji,
Other songs in the movies are all sung by SB and Rajkumari. There is no mention of any male singer.

But male voice is clearly there in this song.

My guess is that the male voice is of Ghulam Haider, based on his voice in https://atulsongaday.me/2012/04/04/saawan-ke-nazaare-hain/

Yes, the male voice in this song sounds like Ghulam Haider. The voice sounded like I had heard it before. when I heard the “khazaanchi” song then I realised that I had heard it in this “Khazaanchi” song.

My first impression is also of Ghulam Haidar. His voice can be compared from here.
