In the course of my exercise on Mohammed Rafi’s playback singing career during 1944-50, I had browsed through some of his songs of the films of that period which I had never heard of. One of those films was ‘Jalte Deep’ (1950). As per the information available on the internet, the film was produced under the banner of Nihal Film Corporation and was directed by Deepak Asha (also known as Dharam Kumar). The star cast included Randheer, Nimmi, Amarnath, Kuldeep Kaur, Sofia, Leela Mishra etc. As per http://www.myswar.com, ‘Jalte Deep’ (1950) has 12 songs written by 3 lyricists –Aziz Kashmiri, Nazim Panipati and M A Taj. The songs were composed by Sardul Kwatra and T K Das.
The song which I got interested is ‘hamen apne dil se judaa kar rahe ho’ sung by Geeta Roy (Dutt). The song was written by Nazim Panipati and set to music by T K Das, probably the only film for which he was the music director. Why did I get interested in this song? The tune of this song is almost similar to a very popular song tere pyaar ka aasraa chaahtaa hoon from ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ (1959). Obviously the tune of this song is inspired from the song I have picked up for discussion. The song was forgotten probably because the film may have flopped badly at the box office. But the inspired song from ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ (1959) was one among the top 10 songs in the final list of Binaca Geetmala in 1960. The point to ponder is whether Sahir Ludhianvi agreed to write the lyrics on an inspired tune who was known to be adamant in not writing lyrics to a pre-set tune.
I must admit that outstanding lyrics, a good orchestration and an interesting picturisation of duet song of ‘sawaal-jawwab’ made this song from ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ very popular. But the fact that Geeta Dutt’s song from ‘Jalte Deep’ (1950) inspired N Dutta to compose tere pyaar ka aasraa chaahtaa hoon is itself a recognition that the tune of the former song was good enough to be customised for the latter song. Listen to Geeta Dutt’s song ‘hamen apne dil se judaa kar rahe ho’ and judge for yourself. Only audio clip of the song is available. From the mood of the song, I guess that this song may have been picturised on Nimmi.
With this song, ‘Jalte Deep’ (1950) makes its first appearance on the Blog.
Song-Hamen apne dil se juda kar rahe ho (Jalte Deep)(1950) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics- Nazim Panipati, MD-T K Das
Lyrics
hamen apne dil se
judaa kar rahe ho o
hamen apne dil se judaa kar rahe ho
ye kyaa ho raha hai
ye kyaa kar rahe ho o
ye kyaa ho raha hai
ye kyaa kar rahe ho
hamen apne dil se ae
hamen apne dil se
toote huye dil ka tumhi ho sahaara
abhi tak hamen aasraa thhaa tumhaara
abhi hamko be-aasraa kar rahe ho
abhi hamko be-aasraa kar rahe ho
hamen apne dil se ae
hamen apne dil se
na aa hum jee sakenge
judaai ke gham se
na aa hum jee sakenge
judaai ke gham se
chale jaa rahe ho
khafaa hoke hamse
chale jaa rahe ho
khafaa hoke hamse
hamen zindagi se khafaa kar rahe ho
hamen zindagi se khafaa kar rahe ho
hamen apne dil se ae
hamen apne dil se
judaa kar rahe ho
ye kyaa ho raha hai
ye kyaa kar rahe ho o
ye kyaa ho raha hai
ye kyaa kar rahe ho
hamen apne dil se ae
hamen apne dil se
