Mukesh and his Actors – 09
Actor Rakesh Pandey (9 April 1940-21 March 2025) made his acting debut in the film Sara Aakash (1969). He won the President’s Award for his role in the film. Apart from Hindi films and TV serials, he was also associated with Bhojpuri silver and small screen and won several awards in the latter regional language association.
He was also associated with FTII, IPTA etc. But with all these startups and awards, my perception is that he could not place himself in the top league of actors. He is, however, known for playing family-centric roles and his rich contributions counted and remembered.

In Hindi films, Mukesh gave playback in 4 films and 5 songs for Rakesh Pandey. I am not aware of any famous songs by other prominent singers. Knowledge readers can please throw light on this aspect.
Apart from the 5 songs that Mukesh sang for Rakesh Pandey, there is one background song picturized on him sans lip-syncing in the film Intezaar (1973). Here is the link to this already posted song.
Strangely, MGK-II lists only one song of Mukesh for Rakesh Pandey in the index. However, there are 5 songs as enlisted in the table below.
Out of the 5 songs, one was not covered so far on the blog and is being taken up in this post. All the songs are familiar. The duet with Vani Jairam at S. No. 1 was quite popular.
Song No 4 was covered by self in my 3-post series on singer and composer Sharda. In today’s post, I take up the second song, a duet of Mukesh with Suman Kalyanpur from the same film.
Maila Aanchal (1981) from the production house of Divya Films was directed and produced by Surendra S. Kapoor. The cast included Rakesh Pandey, Radha Saluja, Abhi Bhattacharya, Ranjana, Aarti, Nanditha Thakur, Arun Desai etc.
It was the 9th and last film composed by Sharda.
Yet again, a melodious duet in the voices of Mukesh and Suman Kalyanpur. What a pair these two singers have turned out to be in the last few duets on the blog.
