“Munim Ji” (1955) was directed by Subodh Kumar for Filmistan Limited, Bombay. The movie had Nalini Jaiwant, Dev Anand, Nirupa Roy, Pran, ameeta, S L Puri, Prabhu Dayal, Kanu Roy, Samar Chatterji, Madan Mohan etc. in it.

As many as ten songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the eleventh and final song from the movie. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt with an uncredited male voice that sounds like S D Burman to me. Only the audio of this song is available. HFGK is of the opinion that this song was probably added in the movie later.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

Shailendra is the lyricist of this song. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

With this song, “Munim Ji” (1955) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-De diya tu le le dil (Munim Ji)(1955) Singer-Geeta Dutt, S D Burman, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

de diya tu lele dil
yoon nahin to chhupke mil
de diya tu lele dil
yoon nahin to chhupke mil
tu hamaara ho jaiyyo
apna hamen bana
ab na ji dukha
ab na ji dukha
kisi ki jaan se na khel re
anaadi ee
de diya tu lele dil
yoon nahin to chhupke mil
anaadi anaadi anaadi re

de de diya tu tu lele lele dil
yoon yoon nahi to to chhu chhu mil

jhuk padi hain mast baadalon ki toliyaan
pi kahaan pi kahaan papihe ki boliyaan
pi kahaan pi kahaan papi pi kahaan pi kahaan
jhuk padi hain mast baadlon ki toliyaan
pi kaha pi kahaan papihe ki boliyaan
jali dil mein holiyaan
kaisi meethi aag lagaai hai waah waah re
anaadi
de diya tu lele dil
yoon nahin to chhupke mil
anaadi anaadi anaadi re

jab talak jiyenge
tera naam lenge ham
tera
ho tera naam lenge ham
seene se lagaaye rahenge ye tera gham
tera
ho tera naam lenge ham
o o o
dillagi mein jaan bhi jaaye to balaa se
dillagi mein jaan bhi jaaye to balaa se
hoga na hamem gham
tere pyaar ki qasam
hoy
sab kahenge preet nibhaai hai waah waah re
anaadi
de diya tu lele dil
yoon nahin to chhupke mil
tu hamaara ho jaiyyo
apna hamen bana
ab na ji dukha
ab na ji dukha
kisi ki jaan se na khel re
anaadi ee
de diya tu lele dil
yoon nahin to chhupke mil
anaadi anaadi anaadi re

I also feel that the male voice is that of S D Burman.

If this song was added later in the movie, the video clip of the song should have been available. My hunch is that this song was recorded but not included in the film. Those who had seen this movie at the time of its release can throw some light on the status of this song.

Some part of the song sounds similar in tune and rhythm with that of https://atulsongaday.me/2009/07/12/yahi-to-hai-wo-yahi-to-hai/ from SOLVA SAAL, 1958.

de diya tu le le dil = suna hogaa aapne kissa ye chaupaal mein

Munimji was (and still continues to be) among my most favourite movies. So much so that I ( although a young child) had watched it umpteen number of times when it was first released. I fondly remember the mock fights that used to be enacted between my younger brother and me in our home just like the film(Hero & villain- Kala Ghoda).

But I can safely vouch that I had not heard this song then or ever in my life before today and kudos to you for discovering and posting it. I am inclined to agree with Kamath Saheb’s view that though the song might have been recorded but it was not used in that movie.
Waiting for the final verdict of our own House Encyclopaedia Mr. A.K. Deshmukh.

P.S.: I suggest it would be quite appropriate for ASAD to adopt the term “Deshmukhopedia”. What do you think? :-))

this is a song by RD Burman from “Barsat Ki EK Raat” featuring Amitabh and Prema Narayan. i think this is also a copy of this SD burman song from “Munimji”
