“Nai Imaarat”(1981) though a recent movie by the standards of this blog is an obscure movie. Even I have not heard of this movie though I was into watching Hindi movies with a vengeance at that time.
It turns out that this movie was directed by Ram Pahwa for Chandni Chitra Productions. The movie had Prikshat Sahni, Vidya Sinha, Sarika, Amrish Puri, Brahmachari,Chandrashekhar, A.K.Hangal,Ranjeeta Kaur,Mohan Choti, Jezbel, Keshto Mukherjee,Rakesh Pandey, Madan Puri, Sajjan, Jayahsree.T.,Meena .T etc in it.
Though I had not heard of this movie, I remember that I had heard a song from this movie, though I was not aware at that time that the song belonged to this movie. What is more, I was not even aware that this song was a composition of Bappi Lahiri !
Today (27 november 2014) is the birth anniversary of Bappi Lahiri. Here is this nice song from “Nai Imaarat”(1981). This song is sung by Lata and chorus. The song is picturised on Vidya Sinha and several other ladies, all playing village belle. Parikshat Sahni, Brahmchaari, Amrish Puri etc are also visible in the picturisation.
Indeewar is the lyricist of this song.
The fact that a song like this ended up as a forgotten song tells us that the “kaliyug” of HFM had well and truly begun by that time when Disco music was calling the shots and great music like this song had very few takers. And this was not the only such example. Bappi Lahiri created some stunning music in forgettable and forgotten movies of that era, whereas his Disco brand of music is equally forgettable movies became hugely popular. With popular taste having takes such a nose dive, one cannot really blame Bappi Lahiri for the kind of music that he began to churn out.

Bappi da rehashed this tune partially again in his own “aaj ka arjun ” Song “gori hain kalaiyaan”
