“Swayamwar”(1980) was produced by B Nagi Reddi and directed by P Sambasiva Rao for Vijaya Productions (P) Limited. In other words, this movie was produced by the makers of “Chandamama”, a popular Children’s magazine that used to be published in some 14 languages of India (and even some foreign languages). Readers who loved reading the stories of “Chandamama” also loved the movies produced by the Production house.
I was one who loved this movie. This movie had Sanjeev Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Moushumi Chatterjee, Vidya Sinha, Dr.Sriram Laagoo, Madan Puri, Nana Palsikar, Birbal, Ranjeet, Asrani(In guest appearance), Shashikala, Meena.T., Nadira, Swaraj Kumar, Vijoo, J.N.Anand, Voltas Vijaya Kumar etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourth and final song from this movie. This song is sung by Kishore Kumar. The song is lip synced by Shashi Kapoor, who poses as a drunk in front of his spoilt wife (Mausami Chatterji) and strict mother in law (Nadira) in a bid to reform them. Shashikala and Madan Puri, playing greedy relatives are also visible in the picturisation.
Gulzar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan. Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.
