“Geet” (1944) was produced by A R Kardar and directed by S U Sunny. The movie had Chanda, Shahu Modak, Nirmala, Amir Ali, Shakir Ali, A Shah, Zahid Ali etc in it.
Eight songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the ninth song from “Geet”(1944) to appear in the blog.
HFGK mentions that this song is the 11th song of the movie. HFGK also mentions a song (with no details whatsoever) at number 8 in this list. On listening to this song, it becomes clear that the song number 8 and song number 11 are one and the same. The song begins with “kab aag muhabbat ki bujhaaye se bujhi hai”. In addition, the lyrics of song number 11 mentioned in HFGK(sung by Shahu Modak and chorus) has been mixed up with the lyrics of song number 2 (sung by Shahu Modak and Nirmala Devi) and creates lots of confusion.
To put it simply. Song number 2 in HFGK, a Shahu Modak- Nirmala Devi duet is one song (already posted) and the song under discussion (song number 11 in HFGK) is another song (a Shahu Modak solo). The song at number 8 is same as the song under discussion. In other words, “Geet”(1944) has ten songs and not eleven as mentioned in HFGK. Song number 2 is a romantic duet whereas the Shahu Modak solo (with chorus) is a patriotic song.
So this song is the ninth and penultimate song of this movie.
Only the audio of this song is available. It is clear that the song was picturised on Shahu Modak and others.
Lyricist of this song is not known. Music is composed by Naushad.
I have not been able to get the words of the lyrics right at some places. I am not satisfied with the lyrics that I have noted down because they do not make full sense to me. I request our readers with keener ears to help suggest the correct words/ fill in the blanks as applicable.
dil mein lagi hai
haan haan
dil mein lagi hai
bharat hi ke
tum sabki taraf dekh rahi hai
haan desh ki gat dil ke ?? pe bajaana
ye desh ye duniya hai
yahaan dil na lagaana
tum dil na lagaana
tum chaaho to bigdi hui taqdeer badal jaaye
manjhdhaar mein doobi hui kashti bhi nikal jaaye
sach ye hai ke
is desh ki har kaum sambhal jaaye
tum ?? ko uthha do to
badal jaaye zamaana
ye desh ye duniya hai
yahaan dil na lagaana
tum dil na lagaana
tum desh ki raksha ke liye kya na karoge
apnon ko bachaana hai to
dushman se ladoge
ik baat kahoon tumse
meri baat sunoge
rakhha hai kadam aaj to
peeche na hataana
?? ki ye duniya hai
yahaan dil na lagaana
tum dil na lagaana
rakha hai kadam aaj to
peeche na hataana
ye desh ye duniya hai
yahaan dil na lagaana
tum dil na lagaana
bedard zamaana
arre bedard zamaana
ye desh ye duniya hai
yahaan dil na lagaana
tum dil na lagaana
bedard zamaana
arre bedard zamaana
ye desh ye duniya hai
yahaan dil na lagaana
tum dil na lagaana

I just unsubscribed for I am getting more -e-mails that I can read.
Having said that, I state that this is is most impressive site I found for old Hindi songs.
Can you please post the songs in Hindi and provide the English meaning, instead of an English transliteration?
Although I am from Guyana in South America I love my oldies but prefer them in Hindi; this way, I get the correct pronunciation of each word.
Thanks, and keep up the great work!
