Produced by Tilak Movies, Bombay and directed by Basu Chaterjee, ‘ Tumhaare Liye’ was a social movie, which did not do any good at the Box-office. It had a starry star-cast of good actors, but the confused unimaginative story of re-births seems to be the real culprit for its failure. Basu Chatterjee, who directed many successful films earlier, could not lift this film, in spite of having superb music by Genius Jaidev, assisted by Shyam Rao. Beautifully worded lyrics by Naqsh Lyallpuri were also almost wasted.
Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Neelam Mehra, Indrani Mukherjee, Anita Guha, A K Hungal, Pinchu Kapur, Dinesh Hingu, Brahm Bharadwaj, Ratnamala, Suresh Chatwal, Vijay Hungal, Surendra Rahi, Javed, Rana, Mumtaz, Kamal Khanna, Pamela, Jajbel, Paro, Sarita, Tina etc. acted in this film. As if these were not enough, Zarina Wahab and Om Shivpuri appeared as Guest stars. !!!
In this film, There were five superb songs out of which two have already found place on this Musical Blog. This one, sung melodiously by Swar-Samragni Lata Mangeshkar is the third one to be followed by one by Asha and one by Usha, both of them her sisters.
‘Govindam, Govindam, Govindam Bhaj Mudhh-mate’ was the famous line by Poet Bhartruhari from his ‘Vairagyashatak’. Naqsh made a variation of that with ‘Mere Manaa’ in the lyrics of this song.
