“Miss Bombay”(1957) was produced by Gulshan Bahl and directed by Kedar Kapoor for N C Films, Bombay. The movie, described as a social movie, had Nalini Jaiwant and Ajit in lead roles with Rehman, Tiwari, Ramesh Thakur, Bhagwan, Vijay laxmi, Rajendra, Praveen Paul, Bhudo Advani, Vijay Pandit, Kathana, Urvashi, Kanchanmala etc in it.
This movie was not about a beauty queen of Bombay, rather this movie was about a bus called “Miss Bombay” !
Here is the story of the movie, as recounted by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia:
Lata(Nalini Jayawant) is a daughter of an Insurance agent. One day she meets Vijay(Ajit), a travelling salesman, with his van which is named ‘Miss Bombay’. They fall in love, sing customary love songs and decide to marry. But the fate acts differently. Due to Father’s debts and illness, Lata has to marry Kumar(Rehman) a son of a millionaire, who is a spoiled brat. He drinks and gambles etc. Vijay is heart broken and sings again the customary sad songs.
Lata however is a devoted Sati savitri. Forgetting Vijay, she tries to change Kumar’s habits. Slowly, Kumar responds and soon becomes a ‘good boy’,leaving all drinking, gambling and other bad habits. He also begins to look after the family business.
One day Vijay hears a conversation of a criminal gang, which is planning to plant a Time Bomb in Vijay’s factory to kill him. Vijay decides to save Kumar and make Lata happy. In his successful attempt to defuse the Bomb,Vijay is wounded seriously and dies on Lata’s arms.
The movie had eight songs in it. Seven songs from the movie have been discussed in the blog in the past.
Here is the eighth and final song from “Miss Bombay”(1957). This song, the most elusive song of the movie, is sung by Geeta Dutt. Asad Bhopali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.
Only the audio of this song is available. From the sounds of it, the song appears to be a club dance song. I request our knowledgeable readerss to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
With this song, “Miss Bombay”(1957) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.
Song-Ham ko na dekho johny hans ke (Miss Bombay)(1957) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Asad Bhopali, MD-Hansraj Bahl
Lyrics
Ham ko na dekho johny hans ke
Ham ko na dekho johny hans ke
maaro nishaana zara kas ke ae ae ae
hic
Ham ko na dekho johny hans ke
maaro nishaana zara kas ke ae
kas ke
meri sharaabi aankhen
meri saloni baahen
pyaar ka ghera daalen
jeet len jisko chaahen
aaja chhudaa doon saare chhakke
maaro nishaana zara kas ke ae ae
hic
Ham ko na dekho johny hans ke
gend nahin hai baabu
dekho ye mera dil hai
is ?? na qaaboo
haay badi mushqil hai
ab ham nahin hain tere bas ke
daaon lagaana zara kas ke ae ae
hic
Ham ko na dekho johny hans ke
dekh chuke hain ham khud(?)
laakhon tumhaare jaise
uljhi hui hai baazi
jeet sakoge kaise
haar na jaana kahin phans ke
maaro nishaana zara kas ke ae ae
hic
Ham ko na dekho johny hans ke
maaro nishaana zara kas ke ae
kas ke
