“Dekho Jee”(1947) was directed by Wali Sahab for Punjab Film Corporation, Bombay. The movie had Mumtaz Shanti, Anjum, A Shah, Khatoon, Haroon, Afzal, Dilshad, Minto Bai, P D lal, Gulnar, Prakash Trehan etc in it.
This movie had eleven songs in it and they included some interestin song. This movie had a song called Jhumka gira re Bareli ke baazaar mein which Predates the “Mera Saaya”(1966) song Jhumka gira re Bareli ke bazaar me by two decades.
Three songs from this obscure movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourth song from “Dekho Jee”(1947) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. Wali Sahab is the lyricist. Music is composed by Tufail Farooqui. If the lady had lost her jhumka in Bareli ka baazaar in the other song, here she wants her baalam to bring her a green chunariya. 🙂 Her saajan needs to ensure that the lady is not allowed to go to Bareli ka baazaar again or else she would come back singing “inhin logon ne le leenhi chunariya mori”. 🙂 Thankfully there is no such song in this movie. 🙂
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song. My guess is that this song may have been picturised on Mumtaz Shanti.
