“Patjhad”(1948) was directed by Ravindra Dave for Pancholi Arts Films, Lahore. The movie had Meena Shorey, Amarnath, G N Butt, Om Prakash, Shamlal, rani Mumtaz, Kamal, Geeta, zafar, Ghulam Qadir, Cuckkoo etc in it.
Seeing that this movie was a production of Lahore and the country was in the throes of the aftermath of partition at that time, this movie may or may not have seen a proper release. The movie had nine songs in it according to HFGK. Initially Ghulam Haider was the music director and later S D Batish was signed up due to unavailability of Ghulam Haider. The distribution of songs among the two is not known. For that matter even the names of singers for the various songs of the movie is not mentioned in HFGK. Only the name of lyricist is known. D N Madhok was the lyricist for all the songs of this movie.
The audio songs of this movie are rare but available and they have recently been uploaded by a rare song uploader on YT. The uploader has assumed Ghulam Haider to be the music director for all those songs and he has also mentioned the names of singers in various songs. I am not sure whether it has been done that based on the entries on the records or it is guesswork.
Here is the first song from “Patjhad”(1948) to appear in the blog. The uploader mentions this song as sung by Zeenat Begam and has mentioned Ghulam Haider as the music director. I am not yet in a position to be able to identify the voice of Zeenat Begam and some other female singers of that era, so I can not be definite. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie as well as on the identity of the singer of this song.
With this rare song from an obscure movie, “Patjhad”(1948) makes its debut in the blog.
