“Priyatama”(1977) was produced by T C Dewan and directed by Basu Chatterji for Modern Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Neetu Singh, Jeetendra, Rakesh Roshan, Asha Sachdev, Utpal Dutt, Reeta Haksar, I.S.Johar, Ritu Kamal, Murad, Sunder, Latika, Roshni, Ajay Kumar, Asrani, Deven Verma, Asit Sen, Jaya Prabha etc in it.

I became aware of the movie when the first song from this movie was discussed by Raja. What a sweet song it was. In fact, the movie itself was quite sweet as I can make out from the picturisation of the song. I have not watched the movie but I can still tell what the story of the movie is all about. In this movie, Jeetendra and Neetu singh fall in love and get married (love marriage). As a newly married couple, they face various kinds of situations. The movie has five songs and all of them deal with different kind of situations. The song discussed by Raja was a party song that the newly married couple throw for their friends.

The net two songs from the movie were discussed three years later in 2013. One of them was a movie opening song while another was a stage dance song.

Three years later, the fourth song from the movie was discussed by Avinash Scrapwala a few weeks ago. This song was a sweet song Main jo boloon haan to haan (Priyatma). This song was a sort of pre wedding vows song. In this song, the lady agrees that she would agree to whatever the gentleman says. In reality, it happens just the other way round where the man has no option but to agree to whatever the lady says. 🙂

Married life is not a bed of roses all the time though. Fights and differences can break out among the two and dealing with them is quite a delicate and sensitive matter, and it is quite a challenge. Qualities like swallowing one’s ego, to be patient, to be understanding etc are required to deal with such situations.

The fifth and final song deals with this situation, and does it quite nicely, in my opinion.

Here is this fifth and final song from “Priyatma”(1977) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Lata. Anjaan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.

The song is picturised as a background song on Neetu Singh and Jeetendra, who have developed a serious misunderstanding and their egoes are coming in the way of reconciliation. A very real life situation, as most people experienced in such matters would agree. 🙂 The song is picturised superbly.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me long ago by Prakashchandra.

With this song, “Priyatma”(1977) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Tere bin kaise din beete sajnaa (Priyatma)(1977) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anjaan, MD-Rajesh Roshan

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

koyee parchchaayee das jaaye
tann jaley mann murjhaaye
tere bin kaise din beete sajnaa
sochaa ye toh ankhiyon mein
aansoo bhar aaye
raat bhar ye zehar
piyaa nahin jaaye
bheegi bheegi ankhiyon mein
rainaa kat jaaye

geeton ke
phoolon ke
meethi meethi bhoolon ke
din thhe woh kitne haseen
aankhon mein hain chhupe
saanson mein hain dabe
bujhe bujhe sapne kahin
sab kuchch haar ke ae
baithhee mann maar ke
ye tapan
ye jalan
mann se naa jaaye
barse ghataa bhi toh
agan barsaaye

aahon kaa ye safar
aansoo ki ye umar
aise kate tanhaan kahaan
ye jahaan hai duaan
do badan ek jaan
kaise rahe door yahaan
tu kahin
main kahin
zindagi ye nahin
beetaa pal khoya kal
kyun na laut aaye
tere bin kaise jiyein
jiyaa nahin jaaye
tere bin kaise din beete sajnaa
sochaa ye toh ankhiyon mein
aansoo bhar aaye
