“Maaya Nagri”(1944), also known as “Mahasati Madalsa” was directed by Dhirubhai Desai for Vishnu Paradise Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Rajkumari, Yashwant Dave, Chandrika, Samson, F M Butt, Nazir, Kashinath, Fazlu, Shahzaadi, Prakash, Bhalerao etc in it.
This movie had eight songs in it. Here is the first song from “Maaya Nagri”(1944) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by G M Durrani and rajkumari. Though there were two lyricists in this movie but the distribution of songs among them is not known. Music is composed by Veer Singh.
Only the audio of this song is available. Assuming that the Rajkumari in the cast is the same as the singer Rajkumar Dubey, it follows that this could be an actor-Singer song for her. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter.
With this rare song, “Maaya Nagri”(1944) makes its debut in the blog as does Veer Singh the music director of this movie.

The singer is Rajkumari Calcuttewali who is also the cast member. You can see her face clearly on the poster. Rajkumari Dubey stopped acting in the 30s due to her body image.
