“Dharti Ke Laal”(1946) was directed by K A Abbas for Indian People Theatre Association, Bombay. This “social” movie, which was a kind of movie that would be described as “art” movie in 1970s, had Shambhu Mitra, Usha Dutt, Balraj Sahni, Damyanti Sahni, Anwar Mirza, Tripti Bhaduri, Mahendra nath, Vishwamitra Adil, Snehprabha, David, K N Singh etc in it.
This movie had ten songs in it. Here is the first song from the movie to appear in the blog.
The video of this song is available. According to a comment in YT, this song is picturised on Tripti Mitra. seeing that there is ane name called Tripti Bhaduri in the cast, I guess that it is Tripti Bhaduri who may have later become Tripti Mitra after her marriage, may be with Shambhu Mitra, another actor in this movie.
HFGK mentions the name of singer as Mumtaz Shanti. But I am quite sceptical about it. Mumtaz Shanti was an actress and not a singer and it was unlikely that she would lend her voice in a movie where she did not herself appear in the star cast. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the identity of the singer which to my mind cannot Mumtaz Shanti, the well known leading lady of those days.
There were four lyricists in this movie but the distribution of their workload in penning the ten songs of this movie is not known.
Only confirmed detail that is not about this song is that this song is composed by sitar maestro Pt Ravishankar.
With this song, “Dharti Ke Laal”(1946) makes its debut in the blog.
