“Anokha Daan”(1972) was produced by L B Thakur and directed by Asit Sen for L B Thakur Productions, Bombay. The movie had Zahira, Anil Dhawan, Rakesh Pandey, Kabir Bedi, Archana, Nadira, Mukri, Anwar Hussain, Brahm Bhardwaj, Rashid Khan, Dev Kishen, Paul Mahendra, Poornima, Tarun Bose, Vishwa Mehra, Padma Khanna etc. in it.

The movie had five songs in it. Four songs from the movie have been covered in the blog in the past.

Here is the fifth and final song from “Anokha Daan”(1972) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Manna dey and chorus. Yogesh is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sali Chaudhary.

Though the movie is a recent movie by the standards of this blog, but this song has ended up becoming a rare song. I had never heard this song before.

The song is picturised on a group of people including Rakesh pandey (playing a fauzi), Archana and others. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actors who are seen driving away in a jeep to some highway. My guess is that this song is picturised on the highway between Bombay and Pune, but I could well be wrong.

The lyrics are quite nice and inspirational, without being preachy or pompous. It is a kind of song that a group of people going on a long ride would like to sing enroute.

With this rare song, “Anokha Daan”(1972) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Maana ki hai zindagi ye safar (Anokha Daan)(1972) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Yogesh, MD-Salil Chaudhary
Chorus

Lyrics

maana ki hai zindagi ye safar
har mod par ajnabi ye dagar
kal ki nahin hai kisi ko bhi khabar
to kyun na ham karen jatan
na ho dukhi kisi ka man
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan
maana ki hai zindagi ye safar
har mod par ajnabi ye dagar
kal ki nahin hai kisi ko bhi khabar
to kyun na ham karen jatan
na ho dukhi kisi ka man
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan

maana ki hai zindagi ye safar

badle huye is naye daur mein
jeene ke ab kuchh naye taur hain
badle huye is naye daur mein
jeene ke ab kuchh naye taur hain
apni khushi apne gham ke siwaa
kuchh to yahaan farz bhi aur hain
to kyun na ham karen jatan
na ho dukhi kisi ka man
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan

maana ki hai zindagi ye safar

zanjeer har bhed ki tod ke
ye farq aapas ka sab chhod ke
zanjeer har bhed ki tod ke
ye farq aapas ka sab chhod ke
dekho andhere ujaale yahaan
milte hain jab yoon gale daud ke
to kyun na ham karen jatan
na ho dukhi kisi ka man
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan

maana ki hai zindagi ye safar

koi kahe zindagi bojh hai
koi kahe zindagi mauj hai
koi kahe zindagi bojh hai
koi kahe zindagi mauj hai
insaanon ki is bhari bheed mein
sab ko magar pyaar ki khoj hai
to kyun na ham karen jatan
na ho dukhi kisi ka man
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan
maana ki hai zindagi ye safar
har mod par ajnabi ye dagar
kal ki nahin hai kisi ko bhi khabar
to kyun na ham karen jatan
na ho dukhi kisi ka man
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan
na ho ghutan
na ho jalan
na ho koi soonaapan

YIPPEEEE!! This song sounds very familiar.. but I am sure I have not heard it before. Maybe it sounds like a song similar in tune to this. Manna Dey makes any song so good to listen to :).

Anokha Daan was loosely based on an English novel. Can’t recollect the novel. The movie is not available on YouTube. Only songs can be viewed. Rakesh Pandey is featured with Archana while Anil Dhawan is cast opposite Zaheera. I watched Zaheera as a vamp in Vinod Khanna- Tina Munim starrer Khuda Kasam (1981). Unfortunately, she didn’t have a great career in Bollywood and settled in London. Kabir Bedi plays the protagonist. The plot is something like a case of mistaken identities. If someone can tell me, which novel was this….Yeh… I remembered this… It was the Russian play “Inspector General”

I first heard the song “Madhbari” on vividh bharati in 2008 and was completely bowled over by it. It was written by Gulzar. Salil Chowdhury used his tunes in more than one film – hence the tune appears familiar. Even Naushad used the tune of song in “My friend” Rafi’s – Naiyya Meri Chalti Jaaye in Pakezaah that released a year.
BTW. Atulji, has this song been featured? It is a lovely song featuring Gujarati actor Rajeev with Bengali Beauty Prema Narayan.

Archana is the daughter of Hemen Gupta. That explains why she was cast in films of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Asit Sen. Besides the fact that all of them are Bengalis, Mukherjee and Asit Sen were assistants to Bimal Roya and all of them landed in Bombay only due to Bimal Roy. Ditto Hemen Gupta. He directed the legendary – Kabuliwalah starring Usha Kiran and Balraj Sahni. Earlier, in 1954, Hemen Gupta had directed “Ferry” (Kashti). Pradeep Kumar and Geeta Bali starred in it. But Kumar got busy with Nagin and Anarkali. So, Dev Anand stepped in. Hemen introduced two children in this movie. One was Hemant Kumar’s son Babu who later married Maushmi Chatterjee, the well known actress. The other child was Baby Bula (also called Jayshree). After her father’s untimely death in 1967, Jayshree studied in St Xavier’s College majoring in Economics. She debuted in 1970 with Umang (directed by Guru Dutt’s brother Atma Ram and shot in Matunga- Sion area). She was rechristened Archana. She starred in 1971’s Buddha Mil Gaya which was also produced by L B Lachman. & later did “Anokha Dan” (her last film). She married her classmate Yogesh Motwane in 1974 and later migrated to New Jersey. She has two sons. She calls her Jayshree Motwane now. All of us were breaking our head about this actress (who had her two moments of fame) in the song – Raat Kali Ek Khwab Mein Ayi.. It is now that the truth and whereabouts of Archana have emerged. She has an elder brother Jayant Gupta who lives in Canada. Her younger brother Jaijeet Gupta lives in Khar Road , Bombay. Archana does visit Bombay but remains elusive about any kind of media coverage.
