“Phir Bhi”(1971) was produced and directed by Shivendra Sinha for Chhavi Bhaarti, Bombay. I recall this movie as a school kid as a “boring” movie. No, I had not watched it, but I had read its story cum screen play. Those were the days when story and screenplay of movies were published with photographs were published in pocket book format. I recall reading such books for “Kati Patang”(1970) and “Bobby” (1973)as well.

The story was described so vividly in these pocket books that one did not need to watch the movie. I have not watched “Kati Patang” (1970) and “Bobby”(1973) but I feel like I have aleady watched them, just on the strength of these books that I read.

Since I found “Phir Bhi”(1971) as a boring story, I did not take much interest in it. In any case, this story was rather grown up stuff (as against “Adult” stuff. The little that I recall of this story is that mother-separated from her husband (played by Urmila Bhatt) and adolescent daughter (played by Bambi) live alone and both have their own romantic lives, or sort of. Boring stuff, from the pint of views of a nine year old that I was those days.

When I tried to check up this story on internet, I found that internet is even less aware of this movie that I am. I at least read the book on this movie. wikipedia page of “Phir Bhi” (1971) is a stub, with hardly anty information. The only worthwhile information provided there is that this movie had won the national award for the best movie and that Pratap Sharma had won the national award for male lead.

The movie had three songs in it. Two of these songs have been discussed in the past.

Here is the third and final song from “Phir Bhi”(1971) to appear in the blog. This song is a background song, which is sung by Hemant Kumar and Ranu Mukherji. The song gets played in the background while Bambi is seen seated in a bus.

This song is penned by Hariwansh Rai Bachchan. Music is composed by Raghunath Seth. It is quite a rare song on many counts. And frankly speaking, I cannot make much head or tail of this song even to this date. 🙂

with this song, “Phir Bhi”(1971) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

saanjh khile
bhor jhare
phool har singaar ki
raat mahakti rahi
raat mahakti rahi

shaam jale
bhor bujhe
shaam jale
bhor bujhe
deep ye dwaar dwaar ke
raah chamakti rahi
raah chamakti rahi

geet rachey
geet mitey ae
geet rachey
geet mitey
jeet aur haar ke
preet dahakti rahi
preet dahakti rahi
preet dahakti rahi
preet dahakti rahi

The song should be “Sham khiley”, not “Sham dhale”, in the title and heading. That may be the cause of confusion about the meaning of the song.
