“Aarsi”(1947) was directed by Daaud Chand for Jeewan Pictures,Lahore. There movie had Meena, Al Nasir, Ajmal, Asha Posle, Ramlal, Zahoor Shah, Kamla, Iqbal, P N Bali, Chandrashekhar, Bheemsen, Kukku, Pran etc. in it. The Meena most likely was Meena Shorey.
There were eleven songs in the movie. One song has been covered in the past.
Here is the second song from “Aarsi”(1947) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Zeenat Begam. Sarshar Sailaani is the lyricist. There were two music directors in this movie and it is not known who composed which song. But seeing that another song on the same record number (which has been covered in the blog) was composed by Pt lachchiram, I have assumed him to be the music director of this son as well.
This song is a “calling the beloved” genre of song where the lady is missing her beau and is hoping that he joins him by the usual means, viz by applying for leave, or even “chori chori”. It has a delightful dholak playing in the background throughtout the song.
