When I looked at the filmography of Madan Mohan, I found that “Sharaafat Chhod Di Maine”(1976) is one of the few movies that is not yet represented in the blog. The movie was directed by Jagdev Bhambhri for Hema Pictures, Bombay. This social movie had Hema Malini, Feroz Khan, Neetu Singh, Jagdeep, Abhi Bhattacharya, Afzal Khan, Baby Madhu Malini, Hakeem, Surendra Khosla, Hitler, Dev Sharma, Moolchand, and Helen, with special roles by Bindu, Padma Khanna, Aparna Chaudhary, Dev Kumar, Fariyal, Laxmi Chhaaya, Jayshree T, Dheeraj, Tabrez, Gopal Sahgal, Sudarshan Sharma, Nandu, Jagdev Bhambhri etc in it.
This “social” movie had five songs in it. It is a popular misconception for people, including me that the song sharaafat chhod di maine is from this movie. No, this song is from “Sharaafat”(1970).
“Sharaafat Chhod Di Maine”(1976) had five songs in it. Four of the songs are Asha Bhonsle solos and one song is a Rafi-Asha Bhonsle duet.
Here is the first song from “Sharaafat Chhod Di Maine”(1976) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Verma Malik is the lyricist. music is composed by Madan Mohan.
There are several observations one can make about this song. First is that Madan Mohan was clearly under instructions to create a tune that sounded like RD Burman. Second observation is that this song is a Helen song but with some difference. Helen does give a cabaret dance performance, but she is dressed not like a cabaret dancer but like how an apsara out on a mission to break the “tapasya” of a tapaswi muni would dress. Third observation is that the person incharge of getting this song picturised was quite a confused soul. He did not have much clue what to do and he succeeded in totally messing up the picturisation of this song. Most Helen songs are supposed to be watched, but here is a Helen song picturisation that tries to show almost every actor acting in the movie instead of concentrating on the main task at hand viz choreography of this song and thus wasting Helen in this song.
The movie, it goes without saying, deservedly failed at the box office. Nevertheless, the movie has music by Madan Mohan so this movie needs to find representation in the blog. Better late than never. so here is this Helen song from “Sharaafat Chhod Di Maine”(1976). With this song, “Sharaafat Chhod Di Maine”(1976) makes its debut in the blog.

Saw the video of this song and felt that this was a long in the making film as Neetu Singh’s look changes through the song. She has the look that she had in ‘Rickshawala’ of 1973 when she is speaking to Feroz Khan in the flashback shots but has the “Doosra Aadmi” look in the shots where she is getting dressed as a bride.
