Today (3 august 2020) happens to be the festival of Raakhi. Seeing that we are in the grips of a pandemic, most festivals in India are coming and going without much celebration. Things are not what they used to be till last year. Hopefully, we will be able to overcome this pandemic and will be able to celebrate all festivals and all other occasions of get together with the same kind of impunity that was taken for granted till a few months ago.
When the blog began on 19 July 2008, it had very small traffic. The blog used to get less than 50 hits daily. I was counting on the Raakhi festival day to see record traffic. The Raakhi festival that year fell on 16 august. I knew what song to cover on the occasion. It was the iconic raakhi song, bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana (Chhoti Bahan)(1959). That day, the blog saw a record breaking 198 visits ! I walked on cloud nine for several days after that. 🙂
Today (3 august 2020) is the festival of Raakhi again. This time I had not even decided upon the raakhi song. But I can always count of Prakashchandra. He keeps sending (and resending) songs for all important occasion. So I am never short of songs to chose from, eve after I have covered most well known songs for such occasions. I have covered all well known Raakhi songs during last 12 Raakhi festival occasions still Prakashchandra has been able to send me many more songs from the occasions.
Today, I have chosen a less known song from a less known movie. The movie is “Farishta”(1968), a B grade movie under the banner of Taj Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Dev Kumar, Nivedita, Asha Nadkarni, Jagirdar, Jagdish Raj, Sudhir, Master Shahid etc in it.
The movie had five songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past.
This song is suung by Asha Bhonsle and chorus. Asad Bhopali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Dattaram.
Only the audio of the song is available. I heard this song for the first time today, and it is quite a catchy song to listen to. Definitely a forgotten gem, that deserved to be better known among music lovers.
