R. D. Burman – 27th Death Anniversary on 04.01.2021

Summer vacation (1981):
I have just now checked the release date of Rocky 1981 is 8th May, 1981. So someday after 8th May, that year I have seen this movie at Belgaum in a theatre, called ‘Roopali”. Most of our local cousins, and some of their cousins were all collected at my elder uncle(Mamu)’s place at Belgaum. So many people of different age group were there, so lunch was a hotch-potch hurried affair. There was a railway crossing involved between the house and the theatre. A cousin was sent ahead on bicycle to get the tickets from the counter, as a new movie’s first show was likely to get houseful. By the time we all reached the theatre in batches of two’s and three, walking all the way, the boy had gotten the tickets. Rest of it is a blur, I remember only snatches of films scenes, story is all forgotten. Songs were quite popular and all were good quality songs. They were heard over the years, so remembering them is no problem.
I have thought of posting a song from this film in the past too, but the song that readily came to mind is ‘Kya yahi pyar hai” which is already posted.
We are commemorating R. D. Burman’s 27th Death anniversary on 04.01.2021, so this song from Rocky is presented. Though I was not aware that this song is in ‘Rocky’ the song’s words, music, tune everything is there in memory. The lyrics I could write from the memory also, that is the magic of input given to the young mind.
R.D.Burman is the composer here and Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. The singers the Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar giving playback for Sanjay Dutt and Tina Munim. This was a movie made for launching of Sanjay Dutt, and was directed by Sunil Dutt, as per the credits at imdb. This was also the first movie of Shakti Kapoor. Editor remark:-Shakti Kapoor had made his debut in 1970s itself. “Darwaza”(1977) is a case in point.

Nice song+post Nahm ji. I remember now that me, my younger brothers and cousins watched this movie in summer vacation (same like you) at Akola then.
