‘Pyaar Ka Rishtaa-1973’ was directed by Sultan Ahmed for ‘Golden Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Tony Walker. It had Mumtaz, Sameer, Vinod Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha, Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy, Nadira, with Jayshree T., Malka, Randhir, Yunus Parvez, Master Ripple, Baby Deepali, Moolchand Kapoor, Master Ejaz and Chaman Puri and Johny Walker.
This movie was written by Mushtaq Jalili and editing of this movie was done by M.S. Shinde.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 301.01.1973.
‘Pyaar Ka Rishtaa’ had total five songs that were composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonlse and Sharda had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
The songs in this movie were penned by Shakeel Badayuni (who by the time of release of this movie had passed away on 20.04.1970). He wrote three songs for this movie and the two remaining songs were written by Indeevar.
Today 20th April’ 2022 is the fifty-second ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ of Shakeel Badayuni (3 August 1916 – 20 April 1970).
As a tribute to him I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Pyaar Ka Rishtaa’.
A per statistics on the blog Shakeel Badayuni had written lyrics for around 766 songs. Out of these 766 we have 644 songs covered on the blog.
I had not gone through these details earlier. I was under the impression that most of the songs written by Shakeel Saab had already been covered on the blog. But 122 songs pending is a big number. I wonder if all these remaining songs are available.
It would be interesting to go through the ‘filmography’ of Shakeel Badayuni to know the movies from which the songs are yet to be posted. (I hope to do it in the future as possible).
For today we have a song sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle which on screen is performed by Sameer (hope I am correct) and Mumtaz. Today’s song is a ‘chhed-chhaad & nok-jhonk’ type song.
Lyrics are by Shakeel Badayuni. And music is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan.
None of the songs composed by Shankar-Jaikishan featured in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala-1973’. However, two songs composed by them one from ‘Aaj Ki Taazaa Kabhar-1974’ (mujhe meri biwi se bachaao) and one from ‘Chori Chori-1974’ (waastaa hi na jab rahaa tumse) appeared in the list of ’32 next rung songs’ of 1973 Binaca Geetamala.
Let us now listen to today’s song … and pay our tributes to Shakeel Badayuni …

Have never heard of this movie. Sultan Ahmed who cheated on his actress wife Shammi Rabadi has directed this movie. Though Sultan’s later movies were big successes (Ganga Ki Saugandh, Heera etc), I guess Sameer Khan as a hero was a colossal drawback. Sameer also acted with Mumtaz in Gomti Ke Kinare. Though he was the brother of Feroze Khan and Sanjay Khan, he did not have their looks, screen chemistry or charisma. Mumtaz is the only actress who shared screen space with all the three Khan brothers. Sameer Khan later quit films and entered with business world in Dubai where he has a roaring restaurant business. He got married to a starlet (can’t remember her name though) and settled for matrimonial bliss with his wife. Always publicity shy, Sameer Khan deliberately chose to stay away from the limelight after quitting movies. It is a surprise that none of his brothers gave him any opportunity to act in their movies though they were producers. (Am I correct? Hope so!).

Recently I got to see this film. Typical “bhaiyya-behena ka pyar” story. With confused Bhabhi (Nadira) – she doesn’t know whether to be good bad or ugly to her widowed sis-in-law and her son. Son grows up to be Sameer and bhaiyya’s son is vinod khanna who are friends in bachpan turn competitors on growing up and then become friends again towards the end. Kya picture hai- I am sure ladies with handkerchiefs would have loved it in those times.
I must also mention that Shatrughan Sinha was a good comic villain in this. Almost like the romantic comic villain in Blackmail. Wonder why he did so few comedy roles. And his comedy was in the way he delivered his dialogues.
