“Mazdoor”(1945) was directed by Nitin Bose for Filmistan, Bombay. This movie had Nasir Khan, Indumati, Veera, K.N.Singh, Radhakishen etc in it.
All the actors mentioned above were making their debuts !
The movie was inspired from 1941 Hollywood movie “How green Was my valley”(1941). I recall watching this movie on DD in 1980s.
Story of “Mazdoor”(1945) was recounted by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia. Here is what he had to say about the story of this movie :-
Nasir Khan is in love with a village girl-Indumati. He leaves for the city to get a job. He saves a mill owner’s(K.N.Singh) daughter-Veera from a car accident. He is taken to her house as he is wounded in this process. He recovers and is made Manager of the mill. Veera falls in his love. Meanwhile Indumati and her mother-Moti, suffer in the village. They too come to the city and Indumati gets a job in the same Mill. There are Labour problems in the Mill and 2 groups compete with each other. Finally there is confrontation between the Unions and the Mill owner. Nasir Khan, at the end, exposes the Mill owner and joins the Union leader, thus uniting with Indumati.
“Mazdoor”(1945) had six songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the third song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Binapani Mukherjee. Gopal Singh Nepali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hari Prasanna Das.
Only audio of this melancholic song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.
Song-Aabad dil ki duniya barbaad huyi hai (Mazdoor)(1945) Singer-Binapani Mukherjee, Lyrics-Gopal Singh Nepali, MD-Hari Prasanna Das
Lyrics
aabaad dil ki duniya
barbaad hui hai
ab aankhon ka taara mera koi nahin hai
aabad dil ki duniya
barbaad hui hai
ab aankhon ka taara mera koi nahin hai
samjhe thhe jise apni
samjhe thhe jise apni
duniya wo paraayi thhi
maine kisi ki daulat dhokhe mein churaayee thhee
lauta ke usey
lauta ke usey
lauta ke usey kismat kangaal hui hai
ab kaanon ka pyaara mera koi nahin hai
bujh to gaya hai dil ka diya
kaise jalaaun
bujh to gaaya hai dil ka diya
kaise jalaaun
hai aaj mera kaun jise paas bulaaun
hai aaj mera kaun jise paas bulaaun
ab saamne manjhdhaar
hai saamne manjhdhaar
lahron mein meri naav pareshaan hui hai
ab paar kinaara mera koi nahin hai
aabaad dil ki duniya barbaad hui hai
ab aankhon ka taara mera koi nahin hai

Atul ji,
Kindly amend the second stanza lyrics to read as “… maine kisi ki daulat dhokhey se churayi thi…”, to correct an inadvertent slip.
Thanks and regards,
Avadh Lal
