Today 10th January’2024 is the eighty-fourth birthday of Legendary Singer Yesudas. On this occasion we wish him a very happy birthday and healthy and peaceful life ahead. And as a part of today’s celebration of his songs we will be listening to a mesmerizing duet song sung by him with Lata Mangeshkar. This song is from an un-released movie “Majnoon”(1979?).
Music for this movie “Majnoon” was composed by legendary music director Khayyam Saab. As per information given in the book “Khayyam – The Man – His Music” by Vishwas Nerurkar and Bishwanath Chatterjee, this movie was produced by Chunibhai Kapadia i.e. father in law of actor Rajesh Khanna. It was under the banner of ‘Ashirwad Films, Bombay’. The director of this movie was Kamal Amrohi. However this movie was later shelved but not before two songs for this movie were already recorded. As per the very short information available about this movie there are only three names mentioned in the cast of this movie and they are Raj Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Rakhee. Two lyricist wrote the songs for this movie i.e. Kaifi Azmi and Janisar Akhtar.
Sources mentioned that this movie was launched with much fanfare and even a poster of this movie was also launched which have been uploaded by music lovers who have uploaded the audio of this song. A video of this song is also available but it seems to be an incomplete video where the audio quality is also not good. Some sources also mention Kamal Amrohi as the co-producer of this movie with Rajesh Khanna. There are many things said on the various links available on ‘YouTube’ whose authenticity cannot be verified. What we have with us is this lovely song with some ‘high quality poetry’ by Jaan Nisaar Akhtar and this composition from the ‘world of Khayyam Saab’.
Let us listen to this song sung by Yesudas and Lata Mangeshkar. As mentioned above the lyrics are by Jaan Nisaar Akhtar.
In the video of this song (link available) we can see Rajesh Khanna and Rakhee performing on this song.

Very unfortunate for us for not being able to have access to such a wonderfully crafted song by Khaiyam and came out through the most cultured voices of Maestros Lata Ji and Dr. K.J.Jesudas so far.
Anyhow let us enjoy its magical charishma any more as far is available.

Thanks for pointing it. I apologise for my mistake. The lyricist for this song is Jaan Nisar Akhtar.
There is one other song in this movie which is penned by Kaifi Azmi.
