Hullo Atuldom
There have been three posts today, by Avinashji, an ardent fan of the Panchamda a.k.a. R. D. Burman- a music director who was a favorite of an entire generation of Film Music lovers. Avinashji’s posts are accompanied by songs of 1974, 1984 & 1989 – I heard those three songs for the 1st time today. Thank you Avinashji & Atulji.
Over the last few years, i.e. ever since I associated with this wonderful blog, that inspired me to try and write my thoughts & feelings about HFM & its associates it has been a compulsion for me to write posts on the birthdates of celebs & Atulites (whose birthdates I am aware of). Panchamda is one celeb whose birth & death anniversaries urge me to look for hitherto unposted & lesser-heard songs. Many-a-times I mentally prepare about what song I will be writing days in advance, but I end up writing on, entirely, different song, movie etc.
But for today’s post I shall pick the song that I was thinking of for a month now. It is from the 1982 released Sunil Dutt- Reena Roy- Smita Patil -Baby Khushboo starrer “Dard Ka Rishta”. It had music by R D Burman & the songs were written by Anand Bakshi. Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Hariharan & usha Uthup were the singers used. Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar. It is a lullaby (lori) song which is normally considered a mother’s forte. Even Anand Bakshi says that in the lyrics. It is Sunil Dutt singing to his daughter after his wife (Reena Roy) dies in childbirth. It is a two version song. Normally when there are two versions to any song (in films) one will be happy & the other sad or one sung by a male the other by a female (as if following some unwritten rule). But this song is different, both versions are in Kishore Kumar’s voice & both are sad. The first version happens when the infant is crying & the second when the father (Sunil Dutt) is crying. I would love to know if there are any other such version-songs where both are sad & sung by the same singer/ character etc.
