July 15th is the Death Anniversary of Lyricist Anjum Jaipuri (1990) and July 18th is the Birthday of singer Aarti Mukharjee (1945). Today’s song “Tum Agar Pyar Se Dekho” penned by Anjum Jaipuri and sung by Aarti Mukherjee is our tribute to both on the blog.
Neelima – 1975 was produced by Jaffer Hussain and directed by Pushpa Raj for ‘A.A.N. Productions, Bombay’. It starred Zaheeda, Vinod Mehra, Sonia Sahni, Ranjeet, Anjali Kadam, Shahzaad, Nazeer Kashmiri, Rafia Sultana, Sahay, Aarif, Sami, Asgar, Qaiser and others. Anwar Hussain, Suresh, and Sunil Dutt make a special guest appearance in this movie.
An interesting trivia is that the producer Jaffer Hussain is the brother of the movie’s heroine Zaheeda. Their father Akhtar Hussain was the brother of Nargis and Anwar Hussain (character actor). The story of Neelima is supposedly written by Akhtar Hussain.
I vaguely remember having seen this movie in its re-run in 1977-78 and I have no recollection of the story.
Let’s listen to “Tum Agar Pyar Se Dekho” which is very beautifully sung by Aarti Mukharjee with wonderful aalaps and murkis. This song is penned by Anjum Jaipuri and is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
