Today 31st July’2024 is the forty-fourth Remembrance Day of the legendary singer Mohd Rafi. He passed away on this day in 1980. Music lovers all over the world are paying their tributes to Mohd Rafi today. Several bloggers who have their blogs devoted to music & movies or other blogs too have come up with posts remembering Rafi Saab today. They present their different perspective on the various genre of songs that Rafi Saab has sung for Hindi films and even the non-film songs.
As per the statistics on the blog there are 4846 songs of Rafi Saabs from Hindi films. Out of these 4846 songs, 3317 songs are already covered in the blog. So it is still a long way to go for us to bring all the Rafi songs here. My guess is that these 4846 songs do not include the regional lanuguage songs from various languages like Punjabi, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri etc that we can post on this blog. We are likely to be fruitfully engaged for a long time while covering the as yet uncovered Rafi songs in the blog.
Five posts paying tributes to Md Rafi on his remembrance day have appeared so far today. These five posts covered songs from the year ‘1957’, ‘1958’, ‘1970’, ‘1977’ & ‘1971’ in order of their posting. I had planned for a song from the ‘eighties’ too. The song I am presenting in this post is the song which I had been longing to share here. This song was also frequently heard with the other songs of this movie. This song is from the ‘1981’ movie ‘Waardaat’.
‘Waardaat’ was directed by Ramesh Pant for ‘Gopi Enterprises, Madras’. It was produced by Ravikant Nagaich. It had Mithun Chakravarty, Kajal Kiran, Jagdeep, Iftekhar, Kalpana Iyer, Tyagraj, Keshto Mukherjee, Manorama, Praveen Pal, Leena Das, Prem Kumar, Sharat, Prem Bedi, Shakti Kapoor and others.
“Waardaat” has six songs written by Ramesh Pant and Farooque Kaiser as noted in HFGK Vol-VI. Bappi Lahiri was the music composer of this movie. Mohd Rafi, Usha Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri, Annette, Usha Uthhup, and Shailendra Singh were the singers for this movie.
As mentioned above I am presenting Rafi song from the movie which is a duet where we have Rafi Saab and Usha Mangeshkar singing the song.It is picturised on Mithun Chakravarty and Kajal Kiran.
One song from this movie ‘Waaraat-1981’ has already been posted on the blog earlier. I have yet to watch this movie, so can’t say much about it. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs. The video of this song (that I found) is not clear but one can still watch it.
I hope readers will like this song which will surely take many of them down memory lane, when the ‘Bappi-Disco-era’ had just started. 🙂
